The connection between Korean and Indian entertainment have seen a rise in recent years and no, it’s not because of K-pop or K-drama influence but because of one man who became the heart of this cultural exchange since 2014.
Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, the CEO of Kross Pictures has been involved in Indian remakes of his Korean originals. He recognized the unmatched potential of Indian fim market and opened the Mumbai branch of Kross Pictures.
His first major project was “Do lafzon ki Kahani” (2016) starring Kajal Aggarwal and Randeep Hooda. The film was a remake of Korean romantic drama “Always” (2011). He recently won a case against the Kannada filmmakers for Pushpaka Vimana (2017), an unauthorised remake of ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’ (2013).
The recent reports suggest that he approached Akshay Kumar for an upcoming project that will be a hindi remake of a Korean film which looks like a promising cross-industry collaboration.
While the details are yet to be uncovered, the collaboration will mark a major milestone in the cross-cultural projects.
What We know About the Akshay Kumar Collaboration
Hyunwoo Thomas Kim recently revealed in an interview that her personally reached out to Akshay Kumar who is currently in London regarding an upcoming movie.
“I texted Akshay Kumar asking him to watch a particular Korean film that everyone in the industry knows about. Sujoy Ghosh has already worked on the draft. If Akshay agrees we have a project.” Kim told to Bollywood Hungama.
The upcoming project is speculated to be a remake of a Korean hit. The title or other details are not revealed yet but the first draft is reportedly prepared by the acclaimed director Sujoy Ghosh who is well known for movies like Kahaani and Badla.
Whether Akshay Kumar has officially signed the movie or gave any formal commitment is not confirmed yet. Several media reports suggest that the project is ‘in talks’ or in development stage and not an announced film yet.
