Divyabharathi slams director Naresh Kuppili for his rude and misogynistic remark about her. She publicly called out the GOAT Director for making harsh and sexist comments about her on social media.

The actress also voiced her disappointment with her GOAT co-star Sudigali Sudheer not defending in her favour.

The controversy started on Wednesday when Divyabharathi posted a screenshot on X of Naresh calling her “chilaka,” which means “bird” in Hindi but is often used in a disrespectful way toward women. He also stated that she “deserved” to be cast as a second lead.

Divyabharathi wrote back saying that this language is not just harmless teasing, but it reflects “deep-seated misogyny”. She also mentioned that the director acted similarly on the set as well, using disrespectful language against women.

Divyabharathi also said in her statement that she was upset with Sudigali Sudheer because his silence allowed the toxic culture to continue.

She wrote, “What disappointed me most was seeing the hero stay silent, letting this culture live on for another day.”

Some say that she had issues with everyone. The actress clarified these remarks by stating how she never had any problems on the set before while working on many Tamil cinema projects.

“Only this one director went too far and said things that were rude,” she wrote. “He made it public, so I have every right to respond.”

With this issue brought up in public, she emphasizes the importance of how women need to be treated with respect and equally on the sets or anywhere.

While some online criticized her for speaking up, she clarified her issue is with Kuppili’s behaviour and called again for safer, more respectful workplaces in cinema.
