As the box office collection is seeing its hike each day, audiences are unaware which one is leading the chart. The competition between the horror-comedy and the romantic movie feels like a neck to neck competition. This year has been a great year for Indian cinema as from each corner of the country there has been a super hit release. All of the movies come with their own unique story and these stories are nothing like the ones the audience has seen before. Now, coming back to the topic let us see in both the hits which one is leading the box office showdown.
Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Box Office Performance
The overall box office collection is ₹41.25 Cr, according to TOI (Times of India). The movie took over the numbers by ₹9 Cr on its opening day itself. Most of the success is coming from the film’s story which didn’t fail to entertain the audience. The story starred Harshvardhan Rane who became a fan favorite after movies like “Sanam Teri Kasam”. The iconic look he carries in his past films spoke for itself. The fans were seen cheering for him upon the new release. This new release also relies heavily on romanticism which is Harshvardhan’s strong forte.
The story of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat centered around the theme of obsessive and unrequited love. Hardhvardhan’s role Vikramaditya is a powerful and ambitious politician who becomes infatuated with Adaa the moment he sees her. His upbringing in the film is of a spoiled never-say-no-to-one. Throughout his life he has never been denied anything and when the film’s female lead Adaa, played by Sonam Bajwa, doesn’t reciprocate his love the chaos unfolds.
Thamma Box Office Performance
Well, there is no lie that the Maddock franchise has delivered some of the most entertaining films in the past few years. This time around too they have brought a story which spooked the audience as well as gave something to chuckle about. The overall box office collection of the film has reached a whopping number of ₹ 91.70 Cr and counting. The film starred Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna and their chemistry on screen has been on point. Ayushmann is well known for his comic timing from all the projects he had so far. Whatever role he plays there is always a hint of humour in it. The way his humour resonates with the regular day to day office-goers life is what sets him apart. With the film nearing ₹100 cr club it is worth noting that this could be a major stepping stone for Ayushmann Khurrana’s career after Dream Girl 2.
The film follows the story of a journalist who goes into the woods for some peace. Soon the story takes a turn when the introduction of Tadaka takes place. This new character brings supernatural elements and some mysticism. The story then moves forward showcasing all the events that take place and unfolds the actual story behind the creatures. Rashmika has given a commendable performance as this role was unlike any other roles she had led so far. Both the actors have performed their best in bringing out the actual emotions that will connect to a wide range of audience.
Box Office Battle
Unlike last year this year the release and clash that surrounds it wasn’t as loud as last year. Last year’s clash was between Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again and Kartik Aaryan‘s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Both the movies were released closely during the week of Diwali and this year too the audience was again given two distinct movies to choose from.
However, this year though the same phenomenon happened again the outcome varied big time in comparison to that of last year. The budget of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is reportedly ₹25 cr, according to industry expert Hindustan Times. This number now placed alongside what the film has collected so far screams a massive success. On the other hand, the said budget for Thamma is ₹140 crore according to Republic World. This massive budget didn’t go in vain. The steady increase in the box office collection of Thamma seems promising. The soon to reach ₹100 car club film is all set to break their own records.

Who Wins the Battle?
The answer to the question is pretty obvious. Thamma is leading the numbers as of now and seems the numbers will only grow. However, there is a worth noting fact that when we see the movie budget both the films are doing great on their own terms. The reason being their individualistic numbers and the collection. It’s always what the movie has collected that makes them a winner. Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’s performance provided us with an insight that a small budget film can also resonate with the audience and garnered the same amount of fans as that of a big one.
Final Take
Thamma is leading the numbers as of now and the performance seems promising. On the other hand Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is also impressing the fans with its own charm. However, if it’s about the numbers then the answer is pretty obvious. But the true question lies in “which story truly entertained the audience?” and the answer will be different each time. The movies have done their part now. It’s up to you to watch them in the theatre and see for yourself which one is really worth the time despite the box office numbers.
