Marvel Universe is rising towards its 6th phase and a massive crossover. With the new releases slated for the upcoming years, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be the most anticipated release and a significant momentum builder after Endgame

Doomsday definitely calls in for an intense war between the most powerful villains and our beloved Superheroes. But the question is, will the war even be a war without Wakanda? And since Wakanda’s identity is tied to its lethal protector, the bigger question is, who will carry the legacy of the Black Panther into this battle?

In a recent interview with Deadline, Ryan Coogler has revealed their next plan for the upcoming Black Panther threequel. Read on to discover the new updates we know so far.

Is Marvel finally preparing to bring back T’Challa?

More than four years have passed since the world lost Chadwick Boseman, the man who breathed life into the character of T’Challa. His passing in 2020 left a void not only in the hearts of the fans but also in the Black Panther franchise forever.

Even though the discussion for bringing back the iconic character is going on there won’t be any new replacement for Boseman’s portrayal. This suggests that Marvel may be planning a major shift in the Black Panther story for its upcoming projects.

Who Are The Three Powerful Contenders Preparing To Rise As The New Face Of Wakanda?

After all these years of expected and unexpected twists in the multiverse saga, Wakanda may be preparing for a new protector again. Ryan Coogler’s statements have already confirmed an active development in the story.

He even said that he has written a special role for Denzel Washington in the new film. What could it possibly be? A villain? A Panther or another twist?

Shuri is not going anywhere and is an official cast in Doomsday but the rumour about Damson Idris has created a buzz in the fandom. Here’s what all these could possibly bring in the near future.

Shuri’s Return In Avenger’s Doomsday

The return of Shuri played by Letitia Wright in Doomsday is confirmed. In the last movie, she successfully rebuilt the sacred herb and even carried the mantle in Wakanda Forever. We saw her stepping up as the new leader of Wakanda.

The return of the female Black Panther has left us wondering with questions like ‘Will she remain the Black Panther or will she share the legacy?’

The glimpse of T’Challa’s son Toussaint (T’Challa II) has complicated things even more. First, Doomsday is threatening every universe and then the closing scene from Wakanda Forever, Marvel has now room to explore several possibilities:

  • Multiple versions of Black Panther from different universe
  • A future variant of T’Challa
  • A grown up  Toussiant (T’Challa’s son)
  • An entirely new panther rising in wartime

Damson Idris In The Frame

The most discussed actor for the Black Panther rumour is Damson Idris, who went viral after an interview with the Today show. The interviewer was playing a yes-or-no question game with him.

Grabbing the perfect opportunity he questioned Idris, “There is a speculation about the cast of the new Black Panther, have you had any conversation about that, yes or no? To this, Idris cleverly replied ‘yes-no’. Smart answer, perhaps. This probably hints towards the new plan.

Marvel has not confirmed anything yet, but the rumor continues to grow louder every day. The prominent actor is currently

Denzel Washington’s Mysterious Role

Denzel’s appearance is not a rumor but is official for the threequel. But his role is kept secret. He could appear as a historical Wakanda Warrior or a past king or a leader.

Above all, Marvel needs to fill the void of Angela Bassett’s Queen Ramonda, who was killed in Wakanda Forever. There are several possibilities that the upcoming movie might bring in a new powerful character to replace the absence of the queen and Denzel could play one of them.

Black Panther is more than just a superhero, and Marvel knows this. It is a cultural symbol among the fans. With the ongoing rumours, Black Panther 3 is definitely set to change the future of Wakanda.

Production for Black Panther 3 is expected to begin around early 2027, with the official release date yet to be announced. Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18, 2026
