They also added that they have used sensationalism and media scrums as a method of direction rather than targeting Wankhede specifically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>We do not show a documentary on the Cordelia cruise incident. I am inspired by overzealous officers<\/em>. <em>That is far from saying that this is the Cordelia cruise stor<\/em>y,&#8221; the production house\u2019s counsel stated in court and emphasized on the show&#8217;s fictional nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defense also leaned into legal protections surrounding artistic expression arguing that as a form of satire the series is protected speech. They further argued that Wankhede as a public official should expect some level of scrutiny and <em>&#8220;must not be overly thin-skinned<\/em>&#8221; about on-screen portrayals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" id=\"h-sameer-wankhede-alleges-a-hit-job\"><strong>Sameer Wankhede Alleges a &#8220;Hit Job&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Wankhede filed the defamation suit against the production house for <strong>\u20b92 crore in damages<\/strong> which he would donate to a cancer hospital. He argues that the series is a conscious and a &#8220;<strong><em>calculated hit job<\/em><\/strong>&#8221; that is designed to tarnish his reputation following the investigation he led.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wankhede also claims that a specific antagonist in the show is intentionally painted after him and shares striking physical similarities and mannerisms. He added that this character is consistently shown in a negative light and claims one scene even violates national honor laws by showing a character making an obscene gesture after reciting the slogan &#8220;<strong>Satyamev Jayate<\/strong>&#8221; (Truth Alone Triumphs). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former officer points to the timing and context of the show as proof of a &#8220;<em>personal vendetta disguised as satire<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" id=\"h-what-is-the-cordelia-cruise-incident\"><strong>What is the Cordelia Cruise Incident?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ongoing legal battle circles back to the turbulent history between the two parties. Back in the October of 2021 NCB raid on the Cordelia cruise ship in October 2021 led to the arrest of Aryan Khan and several others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case gained massive national attention and the media houses covered both sides of the story. Red Chillies has strictly maintained their stance that the series is a protected work of satire and not a documentary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand Wankhede insists the portrayal amounts to a personal vendetta disguised as satire thus seeking \u20b92 crore in damages.
