We are delighted to welcome Ilker to the Tata Group where\u00a0he would lead Air India into the new era,\u201d said Chandrasekaran.<\/p>\n<p> A 1994 alumni of Bilkent University, after a research stay on political science at the Leeds\u00a0University in the UK in 1995, he completed a Master&#8217;s Programme in International Relations from Istanbul&#8217;s Marmara University in 1997, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI am delighted and honored to accept the privilege of leading an iconic airline and to join the Tata Group. Working closely with my colleagues at Air India and the\u00a0leadership of the Tata Group, we will utilize the strong heritage of Air India to make it one of the best\u00a0 airlines in the world with a uniquely superior flying experience that reflects Indian warmth and\u00a0hospitality,\u201d said Ayci.<\/p>\n<p> After a competitive bidding process, the government had on October 8 last year sold Air India to Talace Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Tata Group&#8217;s holding company, for Rs 18,000 crore.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content-10\" id=\"trade-4119528264\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_3_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"2969612066\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p> Tatas beat the Rs 15,100-crore offer by a consortium led by SpiceJet promoter Ajay Singh and the reserve price of Rs 12,906 crore set by the government for the sale of its 100 per cent stake in the loss-making carrier.<\/p>\n<p> Air India was started by the Tata Group in 1932. However, after the country got independence, It was nationalised in 1953.<\/p>\n<p> As many as 61 individuals have headed Air India, including erstwhile Indian Airlines, between June 6, 1953, and January 27, 2022 &#8212; the period during which the carrier was under the government&#8217;s control, according to an official document accessed by PTI.<\/p>\n<p> \t The list includes civil servants, Air Force officers, technocrats and airline pilots.<\/p>\n<p> Eight out of the 61 person served as Chairman and Managing Director of the combined entity, Air India Ltd between August 2007 and January 27, 2022.<\/p>\n<p> Air India&#8217;s last government-appointed CMD was IAS officer Vikram Dev Dutt, who took charge on January 21, 2022 and Tatas took control of the carrier on January 27.
