The LEI connects to key reference information that enables clear and unique identification of legal entities participating in financial transactions. Each LEI contains information about an entity\u2019s ownership structure and thus answers the questions of \u2018who is who\u2019 and \u2018who owns whom\u2019. The LEI data pool, known as the Global LEI Index, is publicly available on GLEIF\u2019s website and can be regarded as a global directory that greatly enhances transparency in the global marketplace.<\/p>\n<p> The LEI helps to build trust between businesses, financial institutions and organisations, regardless of sector, because it serves as an essential identifier which facilitates cross-border and domestic transactions.
