As we expand trade in goods, in startups, obviously there is going to be a need for all of you (Indian students in Australia) in a bigger way,\u201d Goyal added.<\/p>\n<p> Australia has over one lakh students from India.<\/p>\n<p> Speaking at the event, Australian Trade Minister Dan Tehan said whether Indian students studying in Australia should also get opportunities to work here, is a \u201cvery popular\u201d issue and they are working to address it.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cSo as part of the agreement, what we have reached is that\u201d if a student is from STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) or working in IT as part of their degree and if \u201cyou get a first class honours, then you will get extra post study work (visa). So you will be able to stay here, work and work for longer\u201d.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe have to make sure that our education leads to employment outcome\u2026 We hope that in the coming 6 months, you will have much more opportunity than what you have at the moment,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p> Both the ministers were replying to a question from an Indian student named Mushkan, studying finance and financial technology here.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content-10\" id=\"trade-377341163\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_3_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"2969612066\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p> \u201cWhenever I apply for a job (here), there is always a clause that\u00a0 you need to be an Australian citizen or Australian TR (temporary resident). It is really disheartening because I cannot apply for those jobs,\u201d she rued.<\/p>\n<p> Goyal stressed that education will act as a bridge between India and Australia.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cIt has always been an important element of our partnership. In the post-COVID world, we must explore possibilities of hybrid programmes,\u201d he said, inviting\u00a0the University of NSW to expand its footprint in India.<\/p>\n<p> Later, addressing the Business Leaders&#8217; Meeting, organised by Business Council of Australia, Goyal said business will be the framework on which all other engagements between the two sides will prosper.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cYou can actually take your technologies, take the wonderful innovations that you are generating out (from) your laboratories, research institutions or universities to a large market like India, use the talent and skills that Indians offer, possibly to Make in India for the large Indian population and for the world, &#8211; Make in India for the World,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p> Further, he said to take the bilateral trade in goods and services to USD 100 billion, both countries\u00a0would have to drill that down to more specifics.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cIn those specifics also come the soft power, for example we will have to look at much deeper engagements in our science and technology, in our research, in our education, we will have to align standards. So we will have to get our standards bodies to look at working with each other, so that products can seek seamless access in other&#8217;s markets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p> Goyal said India will set up Invest India Office and in a few months time open Trade Promotion Office in Australia in order to realise the potential of the signed trade pact.
