She also talked about the country&#8217;s resilience in remaining the fastest-growing economy across the globe despite challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content_5\" id=\"trade-4138169413\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_2_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7925020301\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p>\u201cVery good discussions on policies to navigate the #pandemic, food and fuel price shock, and helping the most vulnerable,\u201d Georgieva said in a tweet on Tuesday after the meeting she had with Sitharaman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI welcomed India\u2019s success in rolling out their vaccination program domestically and abroad,\u201d Georgieva said.<\/p>\n<p>Nada Choueiri, IMF\u2019s Mission Chief for India, said that they discussed global and regional economic issues as well as India\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was agreement that the global economy is facing significant risks, not just because the pandemic is still with us and risks of future severe waves cannot be ruled out, but also and importantly because of the economic fallout from the war in Ukraine, and associated disruption to supply chains and large price shocks,\u201d Choueiri told PTI.<\/p>\n<p>These risks are threatening the recovery, so it is important to be vigilant and be ready to respond and address them in a nimble way, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn India-specific issues, the Managing Director recognised India\u2019s sound macroeconomic policy response to the pandemic, which helped support the economy and vulnerable people, including through direct support measures to households and liquidity support to MSMEs,\u201d Choueiri said.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content-10\" id=\"trade-2133987949\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_3_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"2969612066\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p>On regional and global issues, both agreed on the importance of multilateral cooperation to address the challenges, she said in response to a question.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement issued by the finance ministry, Georgieva appreciated India&#8217;s help to Sri Lanka in tackling the latter&#8217;s economic crisis and assured that the IMF would continue to actively engage with the island nation.<\/p>\n<p> Sitharaman and Georgieva also raised concerns about the impact of geopolitical developments on the global economy and the challenges linked to the rising energy prices.<\/p>\n<p> The Russia-Ukraine war has led to a surge in the prices of energy and commodities across the world.<\/p>\n<p> About India&#8217;s policy approach to an economic revival, Sitharaman highlighted the government&#8217;s commitment to support economic growth through capital expenditure (capex) and underlined that the country&#8217;s accommodative fiscal stance accompanied by major structural reforms and strong monetary policies have helped in its post-pandemic recovery.<\/p>\n<p> As per the latest Economic Survey, the country may log 8-8.5 per cent GDP growth in the current fiscal.<\/p>\n<p> To achieve high growth, the government has raised capex by 35.4 per cent for the financial year 2022-23 to Rs 7.5 lakh crore to continue the public investment-led recovery of the pandemic-hit economy. The capex last year was pegged at Rs 5.5 lakh crore.<\/p>\n<p> Further, the finance minister said that India has been helped by robust agricultural output supported by a good monsoon during the pandemic period.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;Agricultural exports, along with other exports, have also sharply increased. India is entering into new economic activities which will help resolve some of the global supply chain issues,&#8221; the finance minister said.<\/p>\n<p> Sitharaman also met Sri Lankan finance minister Ali Sabry on the sidelines of IMF-WB Spring Meetings and discussed the current economic situation and its approach towards addressing the prevailing challenges in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p> The finance minister assured her Sri Lankan counterpart that as a close friend and good neighbour, India will try to extend all possible cooperation and assistance.<\/p>\n<p> Sitharaman also met Indonesia finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on the sidelines of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;The two ministers discussed the current global situation and #G20 #Indonesian Presidency&#8217;s response to it, along with other #G20FMCBG agenda including #GlobalHealth, international financial architecture and #SustainableFinance,&#8221; the ministry said in a tweet.<\/p>\n<p> Both the leaders highlighted the need for the collective attention of the G20 on energy price volatility, inflation pressure and the impact of the geopolitical tensions on the global economy.
