There are concerns that the Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell&#8217;s speech at the Jackson Hole symposium on Friday would focus on more rate hikes to rein in inflation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Also, benchmark indices had come close to slipping into negative zone in the last two sessions, and hence correction was on expected lines,&#8221; said Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research (Retail), Kotak Securities Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>In the broader market, the BSE midcap gauge climbed 0.20 per cent and the smallcap index went up 0.17 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Among the BSE sectoral indices, IT and teck fell 0.88 per cent each, FMCG declined 0.45 per cent, oil &amp; gas 0.40 per cent and industrials 0.35 per cent.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content-10\" id=\"trade-1602048773\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_3_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"2969612066\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p>Consumer discretionary goods and services, consumer durables, metal and realty ended in the green.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ahead of the Jackson Hole symposium, investors across the world are eagerly expecting the Fed chair&#8217;s speech to evaluate the outlook for monetary policy and determine whether the central bank can achieve a soft landing for the economy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Crude prices rose as Saudi Arabia suggested that OPEC+ supply may be reduced to address market instability. Although Indian equities are trading at a premium over other emerging markets, the consistent support from FIIs is guiding the domestic market,&#8221; said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in Asia, markets in Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai ended higher.<\/p>\n<p>Bourses in Europe were trading in the positive zone during mid-session deals. Wall Street had posted gains on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the international oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.17 per cent to USD 101.3 per barrel.<\/p>\n<p>The rupee declined by 7 paise to close at 79.93 (provisional) after moving in a narrow range against the US dollar on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 23.19 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
