The Sensex was trading at 57100 levels, while the Nifty 50 was at 17000 levels. The Reserve Bank of India hiked key interest rates by 50 bps, as expected by most analysts, in order to fight inflation amid global recession fears.&nbsp;<\/p><div class=\"trade-content_7\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-421769788\"><!-- Composite Start --> \r\n <div id=\"M923760ScriptRootC1549812\"> \r\n <\/div> \r\n <script src=\"https:\/\/jsc.mgid.com\/t\/r\/tradebrains.in.1549812.js\" async> \r\n <\/script> \r\n <!-- Composite End --><\/div><p>Global financial major CLSA believes that the Nifty could slump 30 per cent going forward. Further, it believes that the Indian bonds and equity markets have decoupled from their global peers. It said that the low margin of safety and mean reversion are derating risks for Indian equities.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The Dow Jones has fallen by 21.48 per cent on a year-to-date (YTD) basis in 2022 amid worries that an aggressive push by the Fed to raise borrowing costs could throw the economy into a downturn, however, the Nifty 50 has fallen by a mere 3.44 per cent YTD, in comparison.&nbsp;<\/p><p>In fact, India is the only market other than the US where equity valuations are extended against domestic bonds. The report said that at about 2 ppt (percentage points), the difference between India&#8217;s 10-year G-Sec yield and the Nifty&#8217;s earnings yield is at a point at which negative equity returns usually ensue.&nbsp;<\/p><div class=\"trade-content_5\" id=\"trade-975159863\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_2_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7925020301\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div><p>\u201cThe difference between 10-year Indian and US GSec yields has fallen to a 13-year low of 3.3 ppt (percentage point). This, along with a near-record Indian equity valuation premium to peer markets as well as to domestic bonds, indicates a kind of decoupling for Indian bonds as well as equity markets,\u201d stated CLSA in a report released on Thursday.&nbsp;<\/p><p>They said that they do not expect this to be sustainable and regard it as indicative of a very low margin of safety. \u201cA simple valuation mean(s) reversion anchored on bond yields indicates fears of 30% downside in the Nifty,\u201d they added.&nbsp;<\/p><p>\u201cThe 10-year GSec yield in the US has spiked by 150 bps (basis points) in less than two months to about 4% &#8211; an almost 14-year high. In comparison, the Indian 10yr GSec yield has risen only 25bps from its recent lows to 7.3%,\u201d they highlighted in their report. They indicated that India is the only market other than the US where equity valuations are extended versus domestic bonds.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The Rupee touched its all-time low of 81.93 as compared to the US Dollar, last week. As a result, FPIs have been selling Indian equities to make use of gains due to<\/p><p>currency fluctuations.
