Business Tycoon Gautam Adani\u2019s conglomerate suffered a steep fall in its companies\u2019 share price after the US-based short-seller published a report accusing the conglomerate of engaging in \u201cbrazen stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><div class=\"trade-content_7\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-3565964148\"><!-- Composite Start --> \r\n <div id=\"M923760ScriptRootC1549812\"> \r\n <\/div> \r\n <script src=\"https:\/\/jsc.mgid.com\/t\/r\/tradebrains.in.1549812.js\" async> \r\n <\/script> \r\n <!-- Composite End --><\/div><p>Another well-known business magnate Anil Agarwal\u2019s company <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.tradebrains.in\/stock\/VEDL\/consolidated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vedanta Ltd<\/a> <\/strong>share price has been nose-diving since the past four sessions. It fell 8.84% on Tuesday to reach an intraday low of \u20b9 261.95 apiece. The company\u2019s shares were trading at \u20b9 268.20 apiece, down 6.66% at 03:12 PM.\u00a0<\/p><p>Market experts say that there is selling pressure on Vedanta\u2019s share due to a roadblock in its acquisition of state-owned <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.tradebrains.in\/stock\/HINDZINC\/consolidated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hindustan Zinc<\/a><\/strong> and a sharp rise in the US dollar that led to the depreciation of Vedanta bond yield to &#8216;junk&#8217; levels. They said that the company is facing a repayment crisis due to a fall in Vedanta\u2019s bond yield in global markets.\u00a0<\/p><p>About a year ago, Anil Agarwal was thinking about merging Vedanta Resources (Anil Agarwal\u2019s once-London-listed company) with its cash-rich Mumbai-listed unit Vedanta Limited. However, that plan didn\u2019t go anywhere.&nbsp;<\/p><div class=\"trade-content_5\" id=\"trade-1717870636\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_2_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7925020301\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div><p>Vedanta Resources managed to reduce its debt burden from almost $10 billion in March to a little under $ 8 billion. With the listed unit declaring a dividend last month, its parent and majority shareholder is \u201chighly likely\u201d to meet its obligations until September 2023, according to S&amp;P Global Inc.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The trouble started when Agarwal tried to secure the finances for $1.5 billion in loan and bond repayments between September this year and January 2024 The next few weeks are crucial for fundraising. If the company fails, the issuer will issue a B- credit rating and the already deep-in-the-junk- bond category would come under pressure.&nbsp;<\/p><p>\u201cDue to steep rise in US dollar rate in forex market, Vedanta bond yield has gone down,\u201d said Anuj Gupta, Vice President \u2014 Research at IIFL Securities.&nbsp;<\/p><p>He added that as of 31st December 2022, around 99.99 percent of the promoters\u2019 share in Vedanta had been pledged and hence is a big challenge for the company to generate additional money to meet its financial requirement arising in near future.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Anil Agarwal had started buying Hindustan Zinc from the Government two days ago on a privatization deal. The company has a cash pile of &amp; 2 billion and it garners between $ 300 million and $ 600 million EBITDA per quarter. Vedanta Ltd currently owns 65% of the firm, decided in January to offload THL Zinc Ltd. Mauritius to Hindustan Zinc. The debt-laded Vedanta Resources owns Vedanta, and it would have taken care of the former\u2019s liquidity needs.<\/p><p>The government, which still holds about 30% stake in Hindustan Zinc opposed the transaction. \u201cWe would urge the company to explore other cashless methods for acquisition of these assets,\u201d the Indian government said.
