The recent correction in its share price is mainly attributed to its exposure to the Adani group\u2019s companies, which have suffered an erosion of market capitalization after the Hindenburg report.&nbsp;<\/p><p>Hindenburg Research alleged that the Gautam Adani-led Indian conglomerate had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the last few decades, however, the Adani Group refuted all claims.&nbsp;<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-exposure-to-adani-group\"><strong>Exposure to Adani Group&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.tradebrains.in\/stock\/LICI\/consolidated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LIC<\/a><\/strong> held 9.14 per cent in Adani Ports; 5.96 per cent in Adani Total Gas; 4.23 per cent in Adani Enterprises; 3.65 per cent in Adani Transmission; and 1.28 per cent in Adani Green Energy, as per data available for the latest quarter.\u00a0<\/p><div class=\"trade-content_5\" id=\"trade-1926999378\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_2_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7925020301\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div><p>LIC on January 30 said that it has \u20b935,917 crores under equity and debt at the end of December in Adani Group stocks and the total purchase value is \u20b9 30,127 crores.&nbsp;<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fall in share price&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4><p>Even though Adani Group\u2019s stocks account for less than 1% of LIC\u2019s equity portfolio, the markets have battered LIC\u2019s stock. Its shares were trading at \u20b9 702.10 levels on January 24, and have lost 17.25% since then, amid dampened investor sentiments.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The first slide in its share price came when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman\u2019s Budget speech proposed to tax income from life insurance policies (except ULIP) having a premium or aggregate premium above \u20b95 lakhs in a year.&nbsp;<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are analysts saying?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4><p>According to analysts, investors are worried about the impact on the insurer\u2019s business due to its exposure to the Adani group. Moreover, there is a constant overhang of misuse of LIC as a white knight for government disinvestment.&nbsp;<\/p><p>The government currently holds a 96.5% stake in LIC, retail investors hold 2.42%, FIIs hold 0.17% and DIIs hold 0.91%. This means that LIC\u2019s value erosion will hurt the exchequer and retail investors the most.&nbsp;<\/p><p><strong>ICICI Securities in its research report dated February 13, 2023, maintained a buy call on the shares of LIC with a target price of \u20b9 917, which translates to an upside of 57.83% as compared to its share price of \u20b9 581.00.<\/strong><\/p><div class=\"trade-content-10\" id=\"trade-3506106429\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- in_content_3_news -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4023722985638610\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"2969612066\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\r\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div><p><strong>Meanwhile, Geojit BNP Paribas, in its research report dated February 22, 2023, has a buy call on the shares with a target price of \u20b9 765, which translates to an upside of 31.67%.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>The brokerage highlighted that LIC\u2019s exposure to the Adani group as a percentage of its AUM (assets under management was less than 1%.
