The corridor is designed with six lanes of roadway on the lower level, and a metro rail line on the upper level, sharing the same viaduct.\u00a0The metro corridor is designed to be an extension of the <strong>Chennai Metro Blue line <\/strong>that will connect Chennai International Airport with Kilambakkam and eventually with Chettipunniyam in seamless manner, additionally integrating with Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus, suburban rail system and city bus system.\u00a0<\/p><div class=\"trade-in-content\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-4096717082\"><script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"AdsCoreLoader101144\" src=\"https:\/\/sads.adsboosters.xyz\/fbda060f29d5b8e8c653abce4ac69b7b.js\"><\/script>\r\n\u00a0<div class=\"ads-core-ads\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The state government along with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) are working on restructuring the Detailed Project Report (DPR) with the intention of designing the elevated road to accommodate the metro viaduct. This would remove the need for future reconstruction, and cut down on traffic disruption during metro construction.&nbsp;<\/p><div class=\"trade-content\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-1215888542\"><div translate=\"no\" class='mailmunch-forms-widget-1169732'><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-is-tamil-nadu-planning-a-double-decker-metro-corridor\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Why is Tamil Nadu planning a double decker metro corridor?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The southern suburbs of Chennai have seen a sudden surge in residential, commercial and industrial growth, including areas like <strong>Kilambakkam, Vandalur, Guduvanchery, Maraimalai Nagar and Mahindra World City,<\/strong> which has resulted in a huge rise in the number of people travelling in and out of these areas every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kilambakkam Bus Terminus<\/strong> is one of the largest bus terminus in South India, which covers an area of <strong>88.5 acres<\/strong> and connects to the long-distance buses in southern districts of Tamil Nadu. But the road connectivity to the terminal has been an issue which has led to congestion in GST Road.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High volume of traffic on GST Road (NH-32) 32:<\/strong> A major arterial road in Chennai carrying thousands of private vehicles, buses, freight vehicles and traffic going to and from the airport everyday. The overall travel time between Tambaram and southern suburbs has increased during the peak hour.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Need for an integrated transport infrastructure: <\/strong>The government is proposing to build an elevated road and a metro corridor at the same time.
