The government is planning to provide thousands of e-buses, expand charging stations and promote local manufacturing of EVs to reduce pollution in the city, reduce fuel imports and make public transport eco-friendly. The project is anticipated to promote the use of EVs and bolster India&#8217;s status as a global hub for electric mobility.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content-3\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-2636492506\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/tradebrains.in\/get\/voltmoney\/\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" aria-label=\"LAMF3 300_250 (1)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tradebrains-wp.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/money\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/LAMF3-300_250-1.png\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pm-e-drive-scheme-an-overview\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>PM E-DRIVE Scheme: An Overview<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Union Cabinet approved the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme <strong>on 11th September, 2024<\/strong>\u00a0to <strong>encourage electric mobility in India. <\/strong>The scheme is expected to be executed in the next three years with an outlay of <strong>\u20b910,900 crore<\/strong> and will be built upon the existing scheme, FAME-II, which was launched by the government offering subsidies for electric vehicles, but with two additional strands, charging infrastructure and building the EV ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-objectives\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Key objectives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increase EV uptake in various vehicle categories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduce fossil fuel usage and reduction of carbon emissions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhance air quality in urban areas by promoting cleaner transport.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To increase the production at home and encourage Make in India initiative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create an EV charging infrastructure across the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-vehicles-covered\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Vehicles covered:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following are the categories that will be funded: Electric two-wheelers (e-2W), Electric three-wheelers (e-3W), Electric ambulances, Electric trucks and Electric buses (as the largest allocation), Public charging infrastructure \/ EV testing infrastructure. The scheme <strong>aims to provide 14,028 electric buses,<\/strong> and provide a dedicated allocation of <strong>\u20b94,391 crore<\/strong> to roll out them in big cities in India.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-1220619601\"><div translate=\"no\" class='mailmunch-forms-widget-1169732'><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The buses will be<strong> deployed in cities with a population of more than 10 lakh<\/strong>, and also in some special category areas, to enhance urban mobility and lower the air pollution and operational expenses of the state transport departments. PM E-DRIVE will increase India&#8217;s zero emission public transportation network considerably over the next two years with the procurement of one of the world&#8217;s largest electric bus programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cities-benefiting-from-the-electric-bus-allocation\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Cities benefiting from the Electric Bus Allocation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial part of PM E-DRIVE is in large urban centers with high public transport needs.
