More and more people with respiratory illnesses are increasing in the region due to exposure to this poor air quality leading to higher healthcare costs associated with treatment for respiratory illnesses.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Delhi has been grappling with high levels of air pollution for several months exceeding 450+, reaching \u2018severe\u2019 category. People&#8217;s concern over the worsening air quality will cause them to get additional insurance for the treatment of these pollution-related illnesses. As the volume of hospitalizations is increasing in Delhi as a result of the poor air quality and their increasing medical bills, a question that needs to be answered is: Are there more residents purchasing health insurance as a result of the ongoing bad air quality?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Surge in Pollution-Related Medical Cases<\/strong><\/p><div class=\"trade-in-content\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-883841715\"><script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"AdsCoreLoader101144\" src=\"https:\/\/sads.adsboosters.xyz\/fbda060f29d5b8e8c653abce4ac69b7b.js\"><\/script>\r\n\u00a0<div class=\"ads-core-ads\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hospitalizations for respiratory ailments in Delhi rose to about 17\u201318% in the second half of 2024, up from around 5\u20136% in the first half of the year. A combined report by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Medi Assist notes that respiratory-related health insurance claims in Delhi increased by approximately 8.3% in last 2 years. The number of patients who had only seasonal asthma, now continuing to require their asthma medicines year-round, increased. New patients who do not have any past respiratory history arrive at doctor&#8217;s offices with bronchiolitis caused by Air Pollution and sinusitis problems. The same joint report highlighted that Delhi had the highest rise in healthcare costs across India in that period, linked to increased respiratory claims and overall healthcare utilization.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-671459836\"><div translate=\"no\" class='mailmunch-forms-widget-1169732'><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-health-insurance-becoming-more-necessity-than-choice\"><strong>Is Health Insurance Becoming More Necessity Than Choice?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For many residents of Delhi today, the answer is increasingly &#8220;Yes.&#8221; Health insurance used to be purchased mostly after a significant medical event, or for tax-related reasons. However, because of pollution, today health insurance is becoming necessary even for the young and healthy because they have to account for an unpredictable environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children&#8217;s families have been extremely impacted by this change in perceptions of health insurance. As a result of repeated visits to the doctor, children are directly or indirectly exposed to pollution which is leading to an increase in respiratory infections. Thus, parents are more aware of long-term planning for their children&#8217;s health care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many senior citizens also face increased vulnerability due to the increased risk of respiratory infection and the increased cost of care. Hence, it is critical that seniors receive appropriate health insurance coverage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Also read: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tradebrains.in\/money\/rising-medical-bills-in-india-why-health-insurance-is-no-longer-optional\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rising Medical Bills in India: Why Health Insurance Is No Longer Optional<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rising-health-insurance-costs-and-gst-impact\"><strong>Rising Health Insurance Costs and GST Impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At present, a family in Delhi pays between \u20b98,000 to \u20b932,000 annually for a health insurance policy offering coverage between \u20b98 lakh and \u20b933 lakh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any increase in premiums could reduce the affordability of healthcare coverage, particularly for senior citizens, children, and outdoor workers, who are most exposed to pollution-related health risks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The GST Council has yet to provide any tax relief on health insurance, and the existing 18% GST on premiums continues to increase the financial strain on policyholders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During FY 2023\u201324, the government collected \u20b916,398 crore in GST from health and life insurance policies, of which \u20b98,263 crore came from health insurance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the leading health insurance providers in India are HDFC ERGO Health Insurance, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, Aditya Birla Health Insurance.
