An equal contribution should be made by the employer, too.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mandatory wage ceiling for EPF contribution is \u20b915,000 per month.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interest rates for EPF are fixed by the government every year, and interest on PF contribution is credited to the PF account at the end of the financial year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Post retirement, the employee will get the lump sum retirement amount, which includes contributions from both the employee and the employer, including the interest accrued.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-epf-really-taxable\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Is EPF Really Taxable?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What makes EPF special is its EEE status, which means that the amount contributed to the EPF, the interest accrued on the contributions, as well as the maturity amount withdrawn, are all tax-exempt under certain conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EPF Contributions:<\/strong> Contributions made to EPF are not taxable, as deductions can be claimed up to 1.5 lakh under Section 80C.<\/p><div class=\"trade-in-content\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-879197150\"><script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\" id=\"AdsCoreLoader101144\" src=\"https:\/\/sads.adsboosters.xyz\/fbda060f29d5b8e8c653abce4ac69b7b.js\"><\/script>\r\n\u00a0<div class=\"ads-core-ads\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interest on EPF:<\/strong> Interest earned on EPF is taxable, if contribution exceeds certain limit<\/p><div class=\"trade-content\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-3758225807\"><div translate=\"no\" class='mailmunch-forms-widget-1169732'><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the contribution from both the employer and the employee exceeds 2.5 lakh, the interest on the excess will be taxed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In situations where the employer is not contributing to the EPF, if the employee contribution exceeds 5 lakh, then the interest on the excess is taxable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For Example, if you contribute 3 lakh to your EPF every year, and your employer also regularly contributes the same. As both the employee and employer are contributing, the interest will be tax-free only up to 2.5 lakh. So, the interest earned on the excess amount of 50,000 will be taxable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, if the employer is not contributing, then you can contribute up to 5 lakh, and the interest would be tax-free. Let\u2019s say you contribute 6 lakh instead, then the excess amount of 1 lakh will be taxable.<\/p><div class=\"trade-content-2\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\" id=\"trade-690945961\"><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/tradebrains.in\/get\/voltmoney\/\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" aria-label=\"LAMF3 300_250 (1)\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tradebrains-wp.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/money\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/LAMF3-300_250-1.png\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"   \/><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-epf-withdrawal-taxable\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Is EPF withdrawal taxable? <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EPF withdrawals made after the employee completes five years of continuous service are fully tax-free.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, withdrawals made before completing 5 years of continuous service are taxable.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the total withdrawal amount exceeds \u20b950,000, then a 10% TDS is deducted at source, provided PAN is linked to the EPF account. In the absence of PAN, TDS may be deducted at a higher rate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each component of EPF is taxed differently when EPF is withdrawn before the completion of 5 years. Employer\u2019s contribution and the interest earned on it are taxed as salary income.
