Financial institutions, banks, mutual fund houses, registrars, and stockbrokers are legally mandated to report high-value transactions directly to the tax authorities. Long term is taxed at 20% with indexation benefit if held for 24 months or more.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exemptions are available under section 54 and section 54EC.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fixed-deposit-interest-income\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Fixed Deposit Interest Income<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Banks are required to report FD interest payments to the IT department and deduct TDS at 10%, if interest exceeds INR 40000 per year and INR 50000 for senior citizens. If PAN is not furnished, TDS is deducted at 20%.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even if TDS is deducted, the gross interest is taxable as \u201cIncome from other sources\u201d at the applicable slab rate. Taxpayers often assume TDS deduction equates to full tax payment.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The documents required are FD certificate, bank statement, form 26AS, form 15G\/15H, PAN card.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-large-cash-deposits-in-bank-accounts\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Large Cash Deposits in Bank Accounts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The banks must report cash deposits of INR 10 lakh or more in a savings account in a financial year and withdrawals of INR 50 lakh or more in current accounts.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income is taxable at a flat rate of 60% plus a 25% surcharge on the tax amount plus applicable cess at 83% of the unexplained amount. Authorized dealer.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Required documents involve LRS application, passport copy, PAN, foreign bank account proof.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-purchase-and-sale-of-shares-securities\" style=\"font-size:22px\"><strong>Purchase and Sale of Shares\/Securities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The stock exchanges and depositories report transactions in shares, derivatives and debentures.
