New Zealand has announced their 14-member squad for the home three-Test series against the West Indies, which will start on December 2 in Christchurch. The announcement is a mix of experienced and new players as the Black Caps get the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle underway.
One of the most talked-about players is the return of the senior batsman Kane Williamson, who has been injured during the recent Test series in Zimbabwe. The selectors argue that his leadership, stability, and red-ball form all point to the need for his return.
New Zealand has made their batting stronger with the return of Williamson and the addition of experienced seamers Blair Tickner, Jacob Duffy, and the young talent Zak Foulkes to their pace attack. Tickner is back in Tests for the first time since 2023; strong performances in white-ball cricket have made Duffy and Foulkes the new ones, who will not be among those who have impressed in recent matches.
Kyle Jamieson and Glenn Phillips are out of the picture, both are under careful management and will not be part of the first Test squad. The team management states that such a move is dictated by workload and red-ball readiness.
New Zealand Squad for West Indies Series
Tom Latham (c), Tom Blundell (wk), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Kane Williamson, Will Young.
New Zealand look to begin their WTC campaign on a strong note at home, while West Indies will aim to upset home advantage and make headlines on Kiwi soil. With a bolstered pace attack and the return of Williamson, the hosts feel confident; the visitors, meanwhile, will test their resilience in tough seam-friendly conditions.
