Three more years of Messi at Inter Miami. This means the world gets to witness three more years of Messi magic at the American football club, the team announced on Thursday. The club released a video of the Argentinian legend signing the contract on their official handle across all social media platforms. This contract is expected to be his last contract of his professional career.

The financial dealings of the contract were not disclosed in Inter Miami’s announcement on Thursday. According to reports, his first deal with the club paid him over $20 million a year making him the highest paid player in the MLS league. His deal also includes an equity stake in the club even after his retirement as a player. This keeps Messi a part of the club till 41.

Releasing a statement in the news, Messi said, “It makes me really happy to stay here and to continue with this project that, besides being a dream, has become a beautiful reality playing in this stadium, at Miami Freedom Park, since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been very happy, so I’m truly glad to keep going here.”

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham added: “Our vision was to bring the best players to Inter Miami and to this city, and that’s exactly what we have done. We brought the best player to have ever played the game to our city. That shows our commitment to Miami, but it also shows Leo’s commitment to the city, to the club, and to the game. He’s still as committed as he’s ever been, and he still wants to win.”

Messi is also speculated to join the Argentina squad for the FIFA World Cup in 2026 co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada for the first time with its first game taking place in Mexico taking place on June 11, 2026.

Messi’s stats since his debut at Inter Miami?

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has significantly contributed to the club’s performance making them win their league cup during his debut season, qualifying for the Club World Cup. Messi was voted MLS’s MVP for 2024.

Lionel Messi has scored 71 goals in 82 match appearances along with 36 assists for Inter Miami across all competitions during his time at the club. Here is a yearly breakdown of his stats at Inter Miami:

2023 season: Lionel Messi debuted his first ever season with Inter Miami scoring 1 goal in 6 game appearances making a contribution of zero assists throughout the season.

2024 season: 2024 was the main highlight of the club resulting in their qualification in the Club World Cup with Messi scoring 21 goals and 17 assists in 22 matches. Lionel Messi was voted as MLS’s MVP in 2024.

The Argentina captain won the MLS Golden Boot in 2025 for his outstanding performance and contribution to the American football club. His 2025 season represents his best season at Inter Miami recording 29 goals and 19 assists with 28 matches played. He has an overall of 71 goals for the club.
