Insight: Toss Advice & Pitch Talk
South Africa Captain Temba Bavuma revealed that he sought advice from former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, who jokingly told him: “Make sure that you win the toss.” Bavuma said this ahead of the first Test in Kolkata, emphasising how important the coin-toss can be in Indian conditions.
At Eden Gardens, pitch curators have said that morning sessions will favour swing bowlers because the wicket has good carry. There is also suggestion that edges will carry and slip catching will be vital.
Preview: What to Expect
Considering the World Test Championship cycle, India will try to protect their home ground and South Africa will try to win a Test series in India, a challenge that has never been overcome by them in the past. Both teams are equipped with solid bowling and skilled batting. The ODI and T20I series later in the tour will also provide both teams an opportunity to perfect their white-ball combinations before the global tournaments.
