Aiden Markram has updated the history of Test cricket by grabbing nine catches in one match against India in 2025 Guwahati. Aiden Markram’s remarkable catching has not only overstepped Ajinkya Rahane’s old record but also reflected the evolution of modern-day cricket.
In 2015, Rahane made eight catches in Galle and that record stood until now. Markram’s incredible catching ability has raised the bar for all fielders, and what’s more, it is a clear indication that modern cricket is still evolving.
Aiden’s record-breaking moment was a timely reminder of the importance of slip fielding in Test cricket. At every stage of the match, Markram was very alert, catching the ball at the right time and making it tougher for the Indian batsmen.
His excellent fielding skills not only kept South Africa’s pressure on the opponents during the entire match but also changed some desperate moments into the deciding moments of the match.
