A major setback has been incurred by South Africa in the lead-up to the Test series against India as their ace bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the series due to a soft tissue infection. Rabada, who is considered the biggest match-winner in the longest format, could not recover on time, thus, the team management had to call Lungi Ngidi to take his place for the Test match in Guwahati.
The Proteas camp had already been through a lot when Simon Harmer and Marco Jansen were sent to a Kolkata hospital for precautionary scans after they complained of being unwell. Luckily, both players were declared fit and subsequently rejoined the team.
The absence of Rabada will certainly affect the performance of South Africa since he has been the spearhead of their bowling attack for years and is recognized for the timely breakthroughs he delivers. The team will, however, be strengthened with the addition of Lungi Ngidi, who is still a reliable option for South Africa.
