On Sunday, Inter Miami played against FC Cincinnati, trashing them 4-0 where Messi scored one and assisted thrice to his teammates, making them advance to the first Eastern Conference final. He opened the match with a header from a cross delivered by Mateo Silvetti to give Inter Miami the lead in the 19th minute.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or became the first player in football history to reach the milestone of 1300 goal contributions. He has scored 896 goals with just four goals more to reach the 900 goals milestone with 404 assists.
Following the win, Messi took to social media to express his excitement. “LET’S GOOOO!!! Great match from the whole team against a rival that had always given us so much trouble. One step closer…,” wrote Messi. In the Eastern Conference Finals, Inter Miami will meet the winner of Philadelphia Union vs New York City FC.
