India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer gave everyone a big scare after collapsing in the dressing room during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. What was first thought to be a minor rib injury turned out to be far more serious.

According to reports, Iyer fainted soon after returning from the field, with his vitals dropping suddenly. The team doctors and the BCCI medical staff acted quickly and took Iyer to the hospital without any delay.

Tests later showed that he had hurt his left rib area, which caused a small tear in his spleen and led to some internal bleeding. He was kept in the ICU for treatment and close observation.

Thanks to the quick action, his condition is now under control, and he has been moved out of the ICU after showing good signs of recovery. The BCCI said that Iyer is stable and is being looked after by a team of doctors in Sydney.

What did Suryakumar Yadav say about Iyer?

Adding to the positive news, Suryakumar Yadav spoke to reporters and assured fans that Iyer is “recovering well” and in regular touch with his teammates. He urged everyone not to panic, saying the team will “take him home safely” once doctors give the all-clear.

While the recovery timeline is still uncertain, Iyer’s condition is stable, and further scans will determine the next course of action. The medical staff and the BCCI remain closely involved in his care. For now, the big relief is that Shreyas Iyer is safe, out of danger, and responding well to treatment.

Will Shreyas Iyer Play Against South Africa?

With the home series against South Africa starting on November 30, Iyer’s participation looks highly unlikely. Doctors have advised him to rest for at least a few weeks before resuming any cricket activity.

The BCCI is expected to take a cautious approach, ensuring he makes a full recovery before returning to action. As things stand, Iyer is almost certain to miss the ODI series and could also be rested for the early part of the Test series if needed. India’s medical staff will continue to monitor his progress, and a final call will be taken based on his fitness reports closer to the series.
