The Spanish football Association expressed their concern being “Surprised” over Lamine Yamal’s groin injury after being released from the football national team over his injury.
The 18-year-old Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal was selected in the national squad for the world cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkey on the 15 and 18 November respectively.
Lamine Yamal missed five of his La Liga games with Barcelona due to this issue. He underwent a radiofrequency operation on Monday as their training began on Monday.
“This procedure was performed without prior notification to the national team’s medical staff, who only learned of the details through a report received at 10:40 p.m. last night, which indicated a medical recommendation for rest for 7-10 days,” the Spanish football federation said in a statement.
“In view of this situation, and prioritising the player’s health, safety and well-being at all times, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has taken the decision to release the player from the current squad,” it added further.
The Spanish football team manager Luis de la Fuente described the situation as he never came across this situation before. “Of course (surprised), like everyone else, you don’t know, you haven’t heard anything, you don’t know any details, and then they tell you, I insist, and on top of that, there’s the health issue, so you’re surprised.”
The RFEF stated that they have decided to release Lamine Yamal from the November’s squad from the world cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkey to prioritize the player’s health and wellbeing.
What Is Pubalgia?
Pubalgia is a groin related injury that is caused by the tears in the muscles near the pelvic area. This injury is common among athletes and chances of it recurring would be possible if not treated properly.
Barcelona wanted to address the issue and insisted on Yamal taking rest to avoid any long-term setbacks instead of joining the national squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkey.

Barcelona coach furious at Spain?
Hansi Flick previously commented on his frustration over the Spanish football federation.
“He went with the national team in pain and did not train. They gave him painkillers to play,” Flick said. “They had at least a three-goal lead in every match, and he still played over 70 minutes. That is not taking care of the player.”
Yamal’s Recent Form and Spain’s World Cup Push
Before the injury took place, Yamal’s recent form on the field had been electric, scoring in three straight matches and playing full 90-minute games in three of his last four appearances.
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente had planned to feature him in the national squad, describing him as “fit and ready” before the issue was addressed.
Despite the amid controversy, Spain still managed to secure their position in the FIFA world cup after their victory against Georgia. Yamal is still expected to travel with the national team once he overcomes his recovery.
