WPL 2026 auction rules

Every cricket team is going to be allowed to create a roster consisting of no more than 18 players. The five teams altogether can fill 73 slots – comprising 23 spots for overseas players – in the total.

The Right to Match (RTM) was used as an option by the franchises during the WPL auction rules for the first time. Up to five RTM options will be given, depending upon the number of retentions, to buy back the player who was in their squad in 2025.

Teams retaining fewer players will not only have more RTM options but also a bigger budget for the mega auction. The UP Warriorz will be the last team to come into the auction with such a huge rebuilding, as they have only kept one player -the uncapped Shweta Sehrawat- through the Women’s Premier League retentions. They will have the maximum budget along with four RTM options.

The Mumbai Indians, defending champions, and Kaur cricket captain Harmanpreet and the Delhi Capitals who have retained Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, have kept five players. They will be left with no RTM option in the mega auction.

All the teams together will have a total of INR 41.1 crore as their budget for the WPL 2026 auction.
