Indian cinema is all set to witness a historic moment as two of the iconic Superstar: Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna will be officially honoured for completing 50 years in the film industry. For the iconic actors, this is not just a career mark but a legacy moment.

The news was officially confirmed by the Union State Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L Murugan in a press conference in the presence of Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

The 56th International Film Festival of India will be held in Goa from 20th November to 28th November 2025. The honorings of the veteran stars are scheduled during the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony venue is Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, near Panaji in Goa.

Recognition of the Legacy

Both Rajnikanth and Balakrishna are considered to be the iconic superstars that shaped Indian storytelling across decades. Recently Balakrishna was even recognized by the World Book of Records (UK Gold Edition) for completing 50 years in the film industry. He became the first Telugu actor to receive such distinction.

Rajinikanth remains no exception in the world of legends. The story of becoming a Superstar from Bus Conductor influenced and continues to influence generations. He debuted in 1975 with K. Balachander’s Apoorva Raagangal and was recently seen in Coolie, his 171st film. Before completing his 50 years in the industry, he was awarded Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award and several Film and State Awards. August 2025, marked 50 years of his career in the film industry. Fans are eagerly waiting for Jailer 2 and the highly anticipated Thalaivar 173 which marks a reunion with Kamal Haasan.

On the other hand, Nandamuri Balakrishna has done more than 100 films and has received major recognitions and honours as Padma Bhushan, Nandi Awards including Best Actor Award and other regional awards. The actor was last seen in Daaku Maharaj and is busy with his political works as the actor is an MLA for the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh. His next big movie, Akhanda 2 will rock in theatres in December 2025.
