Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh was nominated for the best actor for the Emmys for his film ‘Chamkila’ but he lost it to Spain’s Oriol Pla.
He was one of the few Indian actors to be nominated for a prestigious title on an international level, setting a trademark for Indian cinema.
The award went to Spain’s Oriol Pla for his performance in Yo, Adicto. Diljit Dosanjh played the role of a Punjabi musician in Imtiaz Ali’s Netflix biopic Amar Singh Chamkila. The movie also competed in the best TV Movie/Mini-Series category but lost to the UK’s Lost Boys & Fairies.
The Emmys are an extensive range of awards for the cinema industry. A wide number of Emmy awards are held throughout the year with their own set of categories.
The 53rd international Emmys were held on November 24, Monday in New York.
Despite an unfortunate loss for the best actor award, Diljit shined on the red carpet with his presence with his glittering jacket, white shirt, and a classic black turban, reflecting his Punjabi style.
Imtiaz Ali along with the Vice president of Netflix India attended the event as well.
The Netflix biopic revolves around Amar Singh Chamkila’s rise and tragic end to his life. He was a Punjabi folk sensation for his bold lyrics, especially resonating with women challenging societal norms.
