Kamal Hassan has created a wave of buzz on the internet after he finally confirmed his collaboration with Rajnikanth at the SIIMA award show in Dubai. The historic collaboration is going to mark their first collaboration after 46 years. Sharing his delightful words, he said, “We were supposed to do this long ago, and we are happy that at least now we are finally coming together.”
Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth have not shared the same screen space since 1970s. Their last movie ‘Ninaithake Innikum’ which was directed by K. Balachander. Working uder the same director and mentor, Kamal Hassan adapted heavy roles while Rajnikanth grew into an action star, which naturally diverged their career path. Now that they are being brought together again, the fans are excited to see this full-circle moment.
What is not yet confirmed?
While the director of the movie is stil a mystery for the fans. Many reports and sources had been hinting at Lokesh Kangaraj, the famous director of ‘Master’ and ‘Vikram’. The director has worked extensively with both the actors but his recent movie ‘Coolie’ starring Rajnikanth underperformed, failing to meet the expectations. Lokesh has recieved many criticisms and backlashes since then. Considering this, his name from the director list has been dropped.
Directors such as Pradeep Ranganathan was also named as the potential director but he denied these rumours as he is busy promoting his upcoming project ‘Dude’.

The shift from Lokesh to Nelson Dilipkumar
While Lokesh believes in intense, packed and action-driven script, Rajnikanth was more interested in lighter and fun-toned script. Aligning with the vision, all eyes are now shifted to Nelson Dilipkumar who had a successful history of collaboration with Rajnikanth in his recent movie ‘Jailer’. He is reportedly working with Rajnikanth for the filmmaking of ‘Jailer 2’, a sequel to his recent hit movie ‘Jailer’.
Nelson’s style shows how he is capable of handling the big-star projects. He is famous for directing mass-appeal action sequences as well as the character-driven moments. Fans and media reports speculate that Nelson might take the helm of the Rajnikanth-Kamal Hassan project.
The Current Situation
The current reports and discussions are pointing towards Nelson and the rumours of the director role has majorly shifted from Lokesh to Nelson Dilipkumar. Despite the strong case he has other commitments such as the sequel ‘Jaler 2’ which might affect his timings and availability.
Nelson directing this movie is a strong possibility but not guaranteed yet. Rajnikanth has also spoken about this project. Hinting at the confirmation, he said that the plan is there, but the director and characters are yet to be decided.
