The shares of a prominent zinc manufacturer fell by 6 percent in today’s trading session after its promoter offloaded 7.2 crore equity shares in the company via a block deal.
With a market capitalization of Rs 1.94 lakh crore, the shares of Hindustan Zinc Ltd were trading at Rs 460.20 per share, decreasing around 5.14 percent as compared to the previous closing price of Rs 486.40 apiece.
The shares of Hindustan Zinc Ltd have seen bearish movement after Vedanta offloaded 7.2 crore equity shares, which is equivalent to 1.71 percent of the company, through block deals today, with the transaction size to be around Rs 3,323 crore. The floor price for the deal is Rs 460.5 per share, which is in discount of 5 percent from the previous closing price.
However, as of March 2025, Vedanta owned 2,67,95,48,419 equity shares, which is equivalent to 63.42 percent of the company. Looking forward to the company’s financial performance, revenue increased by 20 percent from Rs 7,549 crore in Q4FY24 to Rs 9,087 crore in Q4FY25. Further, during the same time frame, net profit increased by 47 percent from Rs 2,038 crore to Rs 3,003 crore.

Hindustan Zinc’s FY26 guidance targets mined metal production of 1,125 Ktpa and refined metal at 1,100 Ktpa, with silver output between 700–710 metric tonnes. Zinc production cost is estimated at $1,025–1,050 per tonne. Growth capex is projected between $225–250 million, reflecting a focus on expansion and cost efficiency.
As part of its 2x growth strategy, Hindustan Zinc’s board recently approved a ₹12,000 crore investment to expand refined metal capacity by 250 ktpa. The plan includes setting up a new integrated smelter at Debari and enhancing mine and mill capacities. Targeted for completion in 36 months, the move supports rising global and domestic demand.
