A zero-balance savings account is an account that does not require you to maintain a balance. You can maintain a balance of 0 without incurring any penalties or non-maintenance charges. Benefits that usually come along with these accounts:

  • There is no minimum balance requirement.
  • It offers benefits such as a free cashbook and cheque deposits. 
  • Banks provide you with a debit or ATM card.
  • They also provide you with a locker facility at a very low rate.
  • Allows digital payment through systems such as RuPay.

Kotak 811 Zero Balance Account 

  • Interest Rate: 4% per annum
  • There are a few variants of this bank account:
    • 811 Lite: A temporary account that will be closed if you haven’t done KYC
    • 811 Limited KYC: An account that will close after one year, as KYC wasn’t done properly. 
    • 811 Full KYC: Does not have a closure time as KYC is done.
  • Eligibility Criteria: 
    • Applicant’s age should be at least 18 years old.
    • They must be an Indian Citizen.
    • They must be a new customer to Kotak Mahindra Bank.
  • Benefits:
    • Simply fund your account with Rs 1,000 to get started – you can withdraw it after 24 hours of account opening
      • It can be opened in a hassle-free way.
      • You can ask for a cheque book for which you will be charged
      • It allows unlimited transactions.
      • They provide you with a virtual Debit card, and if you need a physical debit card, you will be charged.

IndusInd Bank Zero Balance Savings Account

  • Interest Rate: 2.5% to 7% based on the amount you have invested
  • Eligibility Criteria: 
    • Aadhar number that is linked to your mobile number.
    • Copy of your PAN Card.
    • Camera on your phone and desktop.
  • Benefits:
    • You will get 5% cashback on Fuel, Dining, OTT, etc.
    • Once every quarter, you will get a Buy one and get one offer on movie tickets on bookmyshow.com.
    • Complimentary insurance cover on ur debit card worth ₹1.5 lakh.
    • You can get a debit card, but you will have to pay ₹500+taxes

Note: In this account, you need to have an initial fund of ₹10,000 in the account. Once the account is opened, you can have a balance of ₹0 for which you won’t be charged.

Axis Bank Zero Balance Account Opening 

  • Interest rate: 
    • 3% – Less than ₹50 lakh 
    • 3.5% – More than ₹50 lakh 
  • Eligibility:
    • Must be an Indian citizen
    • Should have PAN and Aadhar card
    • Your PAN and Aadhar should be linked.
  • Benefits: 
    • Get three months of Amazon prime membership for free once you complete a transaction from your Debit card
    • Get 10 complimentary movie tickets once you complete your first debit card transaction.
    • 3 months of Swiggy One membership
    • Discount on your Uber rides worth ₹500. 

Note: You need to provide an initial funding of ₹10,000.

HDFC Bank Zero Balance Account

It is designed for students, salaried individual and anyone who requires a zero-balance account. 

  • Interest Rate: 
    • 3% – Balance less than ₹50 lakhs 
    • 3.5% – Balance above ₹50 lakhs
  • Eligibility Criteria: 
    • Must be 18 years old
    • They must have Indian citizenship
    • You are required to get your KYC done
    • You can’t have zero balance accounts with any other banks.
    • You would require a passport photo, Aadhar and PAN card. 
  • Benefits:
    • All banking transactions are accessible, and they can be done easily
    • You can access mobile and Internet banking.

ICICI Bank’s Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account (BSBDA)

  • Interest Rate: 3% per annum
  • Eligibility Criteria: 
    • Customer should be above 18 years of age
    • They should not hold any other savings account with ICICI Bank
    • They should not have a BSBDA account with any other bank
    • They should apply under their own capacity, and they should not be dependent on a Karta of a Hindu Undivided Family.
  • Benefits:
    • ICICI will provide a RuPay Debit Card for free.
    • They also provide you with a free passbook.
    • Cash deposits aren’t charged any fees.
    • Once you request the bank, you will be able to use the net banking and mobile banking facilities for customers. 
    • You can open both a single and a joint account.
