Synopsis: Government of Karnataka has told officials that they need to finish the Wind Tunnel Junction underpass in Bengaluru within 3 months. This project has been delayed for a time, when it is done it will help reduce traffic at one of the intersections in the city. It will also make it easier for people to travel on the Old Airport Road and the road that goes to HAL.

Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar wants to get things done quickly for improving Bengaluru’s infrastructure, so he has given officials 3 months to complete the Wind Tunnel Junction underpass. This project has been delayed several times, when it is finished it will make traffic move smoothly at the busy Wind Tunnel Junction. It will be a huge help to the thousands of people who use the Old Airport Road every day.

What Is the Wind Tunnel Junction Underpass Project?

The project is about building a grade-separated underpass at Wind Tunnel Junction which will let cars on Old Airport Road go through without stopping at the traffic signal. Wind Tunnel Junction is an important spot where cars from different areas like HAL, Domlur, Indiranagar, CV Raman Nagar and the Inner Ring Road meet which is why it is one of the most crowded places in the city.

They have not been able to finish the construction on time because they had to move some utility lines and faced problems related to execution of the plan. When the underpass is finally open it should make the traffic move smoothly and people will not have to wait so long at Wind Tunnel Junction.

Key Highlights of the Project

Expected Benefits for Commuters

  • People will not have to wait: as cars going down Old Airport Road will be able to go around the busy traffic light which means less waiting during the busy times of the day.
  • The traffic will flow better: The underpass will help with the traffic at one of the busiest intersections in Bengaluru, making it easier for cars to keep moving.
  • It will be easier to get around: The Wind Tunnel Junction underpass will make it faster to get from one place to another like from HAL to Domlur to Indiranagar to Murugeshpalya to CV Raman Nagar and to the Inner Ring Road.
  • People who work in the IT hubs will have a time: The people who drive to work in the areas around Old Airport Road, HAL, Embassy Golf Links and Indiranagar will get to work on time.
  • People will use fuel: When cars are not stopping and starting all the time they use less fuel and make less pollution.
  • The drive to work will be more predictable: The Wind Tunnel Junction underpass will make the drive to work straightforward especially during the busy morning and evening times when everyone is going to or from work.
