The Sitra-Kurumbapalayam road project is the widening of an 8.6-km stretch of the road network to four lanes at a Rs 51.22 crore cost. The road will be designed with a 20-metre Right of Way (RoW) and include two 7.5-metre carriageways, a central median, footpaths and enhanced drainage. The upgraded corridor will link Sitra Junction to Kurumbapalayam and will enhance road safety, traffic flow and cater to the growing passenger, goods traffic and airport traffic.
Land acquisition gains momentum
The process of land acquisition is now accelerating towards the implementation of the road project. Around 30-35% of the land has been acquired and almost ₹27 crore is allocated for compensation. District officials are accelerating the acquisition process with the Collector, Coimbatore, as the guiding hand, and expect it to be finished by the end of this year. After a significant part of the land has been acquired, the project will progress to the stage of administrative approval and begin construct.

The existing road between Sitra and Kurumbapalayam has been witnessing congestion due to the escalating urban population and the number of vehicles. It is an important road to Coimbatore International Airport, Kalapatti residential belt, Educational Institutions, Industrial Estates and Tourist Places like Ooty and Nilgiris. Land acquisition continues to march forward and the project is in its final stages of preparation.
