Synopsis: Ministry of Electronics & IT has approved 22 proposals with a project investment of 41,863 crore, under the 3rd tranche of ECMS. This article gives the top eight states with the largest investment and projects, focused on industrial growth and electronics manufacturing across the country.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved 22 proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) with projected investment of INR 41,863 crore and, projected production of INR 2,58,152 crore. These approvals are expected to generate 33,791 direct employment opportunities.

Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu has clearly become the leading electronics hub in India, as it was the recipient of the highest amount of financial approvals, with ₹27,166 crore in investment, which is 65% of the total approved, and 23,451 direct jobs created. This concentration indicates that the state has a developed electronics ecosystem, good port logistics, and a strong link with Apple’s global supply chain.

All three major projects are manufacturers of mobile enclosures: Yuzhan Technology (which belongs to Foxconn’s India arm), Motherson Electronic Components, and Tata Electronics. They are all situated in Tamil Nadu, which is a clear indication of the state’s ecosystem advantage and the capital-intensive nature of smartphone casing manufacturing. These investments not only help to cut down India’s historical 100% import dependency in this category but also make Tamil Nadu a reliable alternative to Taiwan and other foreign suppliers.

Haryana

Haryana managed to get the 2nd project with Amara Raja Batteries, which was given the nod to manufacture lithium-ion batteries with an investment of ₹2,922 crore and 3,550 jobs. This is a significant milestone as it is India’s first large-scale approval for digital application Li-ion cells, which will fill a critical gap in the energy storage supply chain for EVs and consumer electronics. The project is strategically located close to NCR’s automotive clusters, and thus it not only enhances India’s EV aspirations but also indicates global faith in its policy and cost competitiveness.

Karnataka

Karnataka has established itself as a secondary center for high-end printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing and high-speed connectors, generating 2,950 jobs, individuals in four different companies. The main contributor to this approval list is AT&S India, which will deal with high-density interconnect (HDI) PCBs.

Meanwhile, Amphenol High Speed Technology India, apart from manufacturing connectors, will also take care of telecom and networking. The approvals not only depict a shift in India’s PCB base away from first-generation suppliers, but also bring along the advanced process capabilities that are desperately needed for 5G and high-frequency applications.

Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh is focusing mainly on the production of base materials for manufacturing. NPSSL Advanced Materials, later established, registered anode material production, the first of its kind in India, creating 600 jobs and overcoming a critical obstacle in the lithium-ion cell production process.

The creation of anode material is a vital area that determines the performance of energy density and lifecycle; therefore, it is extremely important for India’s battery ecosystem. CIPSA TEC India has come up with the establishment of multi-layer PCB capacity along with 100 jobs, while other companies have supplied the materials, not only reflecting the upturn in the supply chain but also the deepening of the assembly process.

Uttar Pradesh has given an impression of a total of 3,200 jobs in the range of 3 to 4 companies, thus, getting connected to Noida’s mobile manufacturing cluster. ILJN Ascent, in cooperation with AT&S, has achieved HDI PCB manufacturing with 1,540 jobs, while Samsung Display Noida has also contributed 800+ jobs through display module sub-assembly, thereby reinforcing the production of automotive and consumer electronics.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra’s decision to approve 2,100 job positions in four companies, amongst which are Vital Electronics, BPL Limited, and Epitome Components, has increased PCB diversity and encouraged export clusters. One approval in Rajasthan brought about 150 jobs in specialized component manufacturing, indicating new prospects in non-conventional hubs.

Madhya Pradesh

MP secured approvals for foundational components and a key sub-assembly (optical transceivers by Dixon), enhancing its role in the electronics ecosystem. 3 applications of M.P. was approved.

Conclusion

The presence of Tamil Nadu with 65% investment (₹27,166 crore) and 69% of the total jobs is a clear indication of India’s successful high-value smartphone enclosure manufacturing consolidation. At the same time, the lithium-ion cells in Haryana to advanced PCBs in Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, are part of the strategy to develop an ecosystem that would deepen the demand for imports at the source by addressing critical import gaps. The fact that 82% of the ₹1.15 lakh crore application pipeline is still pending, and the presence of global manufacturers like Foxconn and Samsung as the main players, gives confidence to the investors. The ECMS trajectory means that India is going to be a credible alternative to Taiwan and Vietnam in the electronics component manufacturing sector by 2030.
