Synopsis: Commuters in Bengaluru have to face the heavy traffic congestion in daily basis. These 10 major road projects will bring relief promising smoother connectivity and reduced travel time. These projects are expected to completed in 2026.

A traffic nightmare in Bengaluru can soon ease up with 10 mega road projects slowly nearing completion by mid-2026.  Flyovers, grade separators and rail bridges are aimed at the worst jams in the city between Yelahanka and Ejipura and the Outer Ring Road.  The daily commuters would then have the luxury of making signal-free commutes and reducing the number of hours they spend in traffic jams during peak time.

Project 1: Flyover at Yelahanka Junction

At the junction of Yelahanka police station circle, between the BWSSB junction and Sheshadripuram College; construction was started in December 2021 but there was delay in completion due to surge in vehicular traffic in the Doddaballapur Main Road and is estimated to be finished by June 2026, It was previously scheduled to finish by December 2023 followed by a series of extended deadlines of December 2024, March 2025 and December 2025.

Project 2: Kengeri ORR-Ullal Grade separators

The separators started work in November 2020 and was expected to be completed in 2022. It will be completed by February 2026, linking Ullal Junction (ORR-Magadi Road/Mysuru Road connector) and Annapoorneshwari Nagar Main Road junction. Passengers of Kengeri, Ullal, and western suburbs will have easier access to Outer Ring Road, avoidance of surface signals and reduction of radial road congestion.

Project 3: HMT-Pipeline Road Grade separator

The grade separator is being constructed at the junction of HMT Road and Pipeline Road. The work in started in November 2020 is heading to completion in February 2026 at Jalahalli Mathikere junction. It will minimise the industrial area congestion and the workers and truckers are able to move faster towards Peenya and Yeshwanthpur.

Project 4: ORR Kerekodi-Hosakerehalli grade separator

It is located at Kerekodi Junction, Outer Ring Road (ORR), near PES College/Hosakerehalli. Work began in August 2020 and is scheduled to finish in January 2026, and clear the tangle of the Outer Ring Road, Kerekodi Road, Hosakerehalli Junction intersection. Signal free-entry of ORR is enjoyed by the Vijayanagar and Mysuru road drivers, who save minutes of wait during the peak hours.

Project 5: ORR Annapoorneshwari Nagara separators

It is currently under construction at the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Annapoorneshwari Nagara Main Road junction. Started construction in July 2022 and is expected to complete in March 2026 on the main road of Annapoorneshwari Nagara, Kengeri ORR. The residents of Magadi Road have direct connections to ORR that saves on diversion and wastage of fuel when people have to commute to the office every day.

Project 6: Kurubarahalli Pipeline Road crossing

It will connect Outer Ring Road and West of Chord Road towards Kurubarahalli pipeline Road.. Between July 2022 and February 2026 this will be a continuation of Pipeline Road between Kurubarahalli and ORR West of Chord Road. It deflects over the Mysuru Road congestion, providing the Magadi Road and Chord Road users with a faster route to the northwards bypass.

Project 7: Ejipura-Sony World-Kendriya Sadan corridor

The Ejipura flyover is an elevated road corridor being built in South Bengaluru to ease traffic between Inner Ring Road or 100-Feet Road and Koramangala or Hosur Road. Construction began in November 2023 with completion in June 2026 in Ejipura Main Road, Inner Ring Road, Sony World, and Kendriya Sadan Junction. The folks at Koramangala, Indiranagar and Sarjapur Road are afforded with high signal free access to the airport road.

Project 8: Improvements and bridges of Ring Road

Ring Road work on NH Tumakuru Road to Nayandanahalli and ORR on Sumanahalli to Ambedkar College started in July 2022 and is due to be completed by the end of February 2026. The constant upgrade ensures the smooth loops of Yeshwanthapur, Malleswaram and Basaveshwaranagar commuters who do not have to use the city core.

Project 9: Yelahanka Channasandra Railway overbridge

Yelahanka Channasandra railway overbridge is intended to replace a level crossing (LC No. 11A) near Jakkur. Started construction in March 2024 and is reaching completion in February 2026 covers rail lines between the Yelahanka station and Channasandra station. Northern suburbs lose level-crossing halts, school rush-throughs, office commutes, and access to the airport.

Project 10: Yelahanka railway underpass ramps

The project to ramp up to the underpass connecting Yelahanka Old Town and New Town near the Yelahanka Railway Station and will be completed by March 2026. Surface rail blocks at Old Town-New Town linkage are beneficial to the local shoppers and residents as they provide them with reliable local travel.

Conclusion

The completion of these 10 projects ahead of schedule would be a breakthrough to the mobility crisis related to Bengaluru, as the city would cease to have gridlock and convert the problematic situation into controllable flows along northwestern/western and eastern corridors. However, continued improvement is necessary to transform the promises into the paved reality and re-establish commuter confidence once the years of frustration are over.
