Synopsis: Bengaluru commuters may face month-long traffic disruptions as pipeline work partially blocks the busy MG Road–Fraser Town corridor. A month-long closure of the main stretch connecting MG-Road to Fraser Town will slowdown commute around Commercial Street.
The MG Road to Fraser Town road in Bengaluru is partly closed because the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board is doing pipeline-laying . They started this work in the middle of June 2026, the road will probably be closed for one month and the work is supposed to go on until the middle of July 2026.
Areas that will be affected
The traffic restrictions will affect important areas along and around the MG Road–Fraser Town corridor. Some areas will probably have a lot of traffic and cars will move slowly, these areas include:
- MG Road
- Ulsoor
- Cox Town
- Fraser Town
- Trinity Circle
- Dickenson Road
- Cambridge Road
- Old Madras Road junctions
- Nearby stretches connecting to Shivajinagar and the Central Business District (CBD)
Motorists will have to spend a lot of time on the road when they are travelling to eastern Bengaluru from the city centre during the peak traffic hours of day.
Why Is the Work Being Carried Out?
The road is closed because of a project by the BWSSB to lay pipelines, this project is supposed to make the water supply in Bengaluru better. The work includes putting in new pipelines underground and upgrading the old ones, this will help get water to all parts of the city. The project will cause some problems for people who are traveling but the authorities say this work is necessary and it will make the water supply system work better in the long run.
Alternative Routes You Can Use
To avoid congestion on the MG Road–Fraser Town area you should try using routes depending on where you are going:
- If you are going from MG Road to Fraser Town or Shivajinagar take Cubbon Road, Queens Road and finally Cunningham Road.
- If you are coming from Ulsoor to Fraser Town use Old Madras Road then go to NGEF Junction and take Banaswadi Main Road.
- If you are going from Central Bengaluru to Cox Town you can take Millers Road or Jayamahal Road instead.
- If you are heading from CBD to East Bengaluru take Old Madras Road, 100 Feet Road, in Indiranagar or Inner Ring Road if possible.
- If you are going to Shivajinagar take Cunningham Road and Millers Road to avoid the roadwork.
Ideally you should check traffic before leaving and leave early so that even if you face a lot of traffic you can still reach your destination on time
What Happens Next?
The pipeline work will go on for one month and after that the road will be restored, people can drive on it like before. The people in charge will keep an eye on the traffic while the work is going on and they will change the traffic plan if they need to. Even if this project seems like an inconvenience for commuters right now , it is essential for Bengaluru in the long run.
