Synopsis: Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line has received its 15th and final trainset, now undergoing assembly and testing. BMRCL targets August 2026, for all 15 trainsets to be operational. This will cut peak-hour frequency from around 7 minutes to nearly 5 minutes.
Bengaluru Metro commuters travelling on the Yellow Line could soon experience shorter waiting times and smoother journeys as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) moves closer to completing the corridor’s planned fleet. The 15th and last six-carriage train set has finally reached the Hebbagodi depot, where the carriages are being equipped with couplings and gangways prior to formation of the train and sent to IBL (Inspection Bay Line).
The 19.75-km Yellow Line links R.V. Road to Bommasandra with important employment areas like the Central Silk Board, Electronic City, and Bommasandra. The line also offers a junction between Yellow Line and Green Line at R.V. Road. Once all 15 trainsets start operating, the BMRCL intends to enhance the frequency of services during peak hours, thus offering more convenience to commuters.
Currently, the 13th trainset has started serving passengers while 14th and 15th trainsets are under mandatory testing. BMRCL aims to make all 15 trainsets operational by August 11, 2026. Before entering commercial service, the final trainset must complete a series of statutory inspections and performance tests. These include:
- Assembly of the six-coach trainset at the Hebbagodi depot.
- Static testing of electrical, signalling, braking and communication systems.
- Around 750 kilometres of dynamic trials on the live corridor during non-operational hours.
- Final safety approval before commercial operations begin.
According to BMRCL, the 15th trainset has arrived and is currently being assembled and moved to the Inspection Bay Line, with dynamic trials and final clearance still pending alongside continued testing of the 14th trainset
The availability of trains on the Yellow Line is a significant achievement for Bengaluru Metro due to frequent delays in the procurement of the rolling stock because of production and supply problems. Six coach train sets will be manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems under a subcontracting arrangement with CRRC Nanjing Puzhen for Phase 2 of the Bengaluru Metro project.

The 15th trainset will bring increased efficiency on the corridor, and will help thousands of commuters daily in the following ways:
- Peak hour frequency will improve from approximately 7 minutes to almost 5 minutes.
- Smoothing traffic during ‘office rush hours’ particularly along routes to and from Electronic City.
- Higher passenger carrying capacity with all 15 trainsets in operation.
- Increased service reliability reserve trainsets may be used for maintenance or operational contingencies.
- Reducing employee travel time between Bengaluru’s main IT and industrial hubs.
BMRCL’s Expansion Strategy
Completion of trainset deliveries for the Yellow Line marks another step in the expansion of Phase 2 of Bengaluru Metro. Once Titagarh Rail Systems finishes delivering all 15 trainsets for the Yellow Line, it will shift focus to supplying trainsets for the Purple and Green Lines. These additional trainsets will help BMRCL improve frequencies and further reduce waiting times across the network.
