Synopsis: BMTC has launched a new 101-km Vajra Vistara AC bus service connecting Tumakuru and Electronic City from July 6, 2026. Priced at ₹200 per trip, the direct service eliminates multiple bus changes and is expected to reduce travel time by up to an hour for many daily commuters.
Traveling from Tumakuru to Electronic City used to require switching various buses. However, on July 6, 2026, BMTC has eased this ride by starting a straightforward journey on the same route involving a Vajra Vistara AC bus passing through Nelamangala, Madavara, and NICE Road. Spanning around 101 km, it is currently BMTC’s longest route, which can now be more easily accessed by IT professionals, students, and daily travelers.
Why Is This New Route Important?
Many people who travel from Tumakuru to Electronic City had to take a KSRTC bus till Arasinakunte and change to another transport service till Madavara before taking a BMTC bus through NICE Road to reach their destination. Now with the Vajra Vistara AC service, commuters have access to a direct one-seat ride, which is more comfortable and hassle-free for them.
Route Overview
The new direct service connects Tumakuru and Electronic City through the following major locations:
- Tumakuru
- Nelamangala
- Madavara
- NICE Road Corridor
- Electronic City
Bus timings
The service currently operates one trip in each direction during peak commuting hours. The bus starts from Tumakuru at about 7:45 AM and reaches Electronic City at about 9:45 AM, thus being very useful to use on its way to work. On the other hand, the bus leaves Electronic City at about 5:45 PM and returns to Tumakuru at about 9:00 PM.
How Will This Service Help Commuters?
The recently launched direct AC service is likely to make long-distance travelling easier by introducing a more convenient and comfortable travel option between Tumakuru and the biggest IT hub of Bengaluru. The service is expected to help travellers by:
- Eliminating the need to change buses multiple times.
- Offering a direct, air-conditioned journey over a 101-km route.
- Reducing overall travel time for many daily commuters.
- Making the journey more convenient for IT workers, students, and office workers.
- Encouraging people to use public transport rather than using their private cars.
BMTC Expansion Context
Tumakuru-Electronic City route is part of BMTC’s expanding AC Vajra Vistara network. Following the decision by the Karnataka State Government to allow BMTC buses to go up to 40 kilometers from the boundaries of Greater Bengaluru Area, BMTC introduced direct AC buses from Bengaluru to the satellite towns like Tumakuru, Channapatna, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara and Kanakapura.
What Happens Next?
The BMTC will monitor passenger requirements and responses after the start of the service. On the basis of feedback given by passengers, BMTC may even increase the frequency of travel or start yet another air-conditioned long distance bus service connecting Bengaluru with its surrounding cities/towns.
