Synopsis: The monsoon season is starting in Bengaluru in its full form, Bengaluru South City Corporation has found 10 areas that get flooded a lot. They have told officials to take steps to stop flooding, traffic jams and inconvenience for people.
The Bengaluru South City Corporation has pointed out 10 places where waterlogging is a major problem. They are telling the people in charge to keep a close eye on these places during the whole monsoon season because these areas have faced the most problems during the recent heavy showers.
BSCC Commissioner K N Ramesh talked to the officials and the traffic police about how to be prepared for the rains. They were instructed to take steps that ensure the road is safe and there is no inconvenience caused to the commuters and . BSCC wants to make sure that the people in Bengaluru can move around safely when it rains.
Areas that are identified
The corporation has found out which areas are at high risk of getting waterlogged, these areas include:
- Hulimavu Lake Junction
- Sagar Junction to Sagar Hospital stretch
- HSR Layout 14th Main Road
- Sony World Junction
- Outer Ring Road
- HSR Layout 5th Main Road
- Shri Rangam Junction
- Bellandur–Iblur Junction
- Wipro Junction, on Sarjapur Road
- Roopena Agrahara
- Madiwala Ayyappa Junction
Instructions by Authorities
- Keep an eye on the areas that usually get flooded
- Make sure the roads are safe when it is raining really hard by deploying road safety measures.
- Do a job of managing the traffic around the specific roads that get really busy
- Stop people from parking in places where they should not so that traffic can keep moving
- Coordinate with the traffic police when it is raining a lot
The BSCC has also sent out six towing trucks to move cars that are parked in the wrong place as these cars could block the way for vehicles when there is an emergency and monsoon is going on. Apart from the problem of water getting stuck everywhere, the people in charge talked about how bad the traffic’s at the NICE Junction on Bannerghatta Main Road. The BSCC thinks that making a loop system like the one they have at the Mysore Road NICE Junction will help the traffic move in that area.
Hulimavu lake development under review
When Greater Bengaluru authority’s forest, ecology and climate change division went to check on things they told the groups working on it to hurry up and finish the work at Hulimavu Lake. The people who live around Hulimavu Lake said they are worried because it is taking a long to fix up the lake and dirty water is still flowing into it. The authorities told the BWSSB to work on building a place that will clean the dirty water and to put up a fence around Hulimavu Lake.
Waterlogging is still a big problem for a city like Bengaluru during the monsoon season, the authorities found 137 places in Bengaluru where water gets stuck. They want to make the roads and drains better and that is why they are working on 10 most prone spots to stop flooding and make the roads safer and easier to drive on when it rains.
