Synopsis: Namma Metro got its thirteenth Yellow Line train, this is expected to make the metro service more frequent. It will help people travelling through routes, like Electronic City, Bommasandra, Silk Board and Hosur Road.

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro just got its 13th train set for the Yellow Line, this is another step towards making travelling smoother in the RV Road–Bommasandra corridor. The train was made by China’s CRRC Nanjing Puzhen and assembled by Titagarh Rail Systems in India; it arrived at Hebbagodi depot on June 15. With more trains being added to the network BMRCL thinks it can make the service more frequent and carry passengers on the Yellow Line. This line connects important residential areas, commercial places and IT hubs in South Bengaluru.

Areas Covered by the Yellow Line

  • RV Road – Key interchange station connecting the Yellow Line with the Green Line.
  • Jayadeva Hospital – Major transit hub with future connectivity to the Pink Line.
  • BTM Layout – One of South Bengaluru’s largest neighbourhoods for housing and businesses
  • Central Silk Board – Important junction that connects South Bengaluru with Outer Ring Road employment hubs.
  • Bommanahalli – High population locality along the Hosur Road corridor.
  • Hongasandra – More people will locate here as they will be benefiting from improved metro access.
  • Kudlu Gate – Important access point for nearby residential and industrial areas.
  • Singasandra – Popular residential market with strong connectivity to IT corridors.
  • Hosa Road – Emerging residential and commercial hub along Hosur Road.

The 13th train will help BMRCL make the waiting times shorter for people on the Yellow Line. When the Yellow Line first opened in August 2025 there were three trains so people had to wait around 25 minutes during busy times. As they got more trains the waiting times got shorter, it went down to 13 minutes ,then 9-10 minutes and now it is around 7-8 minutes when it is busy. The Yellow Line is getting better with the new 13th train and BMRCL wants to make it even better as they want to have trains every 5 minutes, on the Yellow Line when they have all the trains they need.

Yellow Line Frequency Improvement Timeline

  • August 2025 was when the operations started with 3 trains and the trains were running every 25 minutes during the time of the day.
  • December 2025 saw the fleet get bigger which meant the trains were now coming every 13 minutes.
  • From March to May 2026 more trains were, this helped to bring the time between trains closer to 8 to 10 minutes.
  • In June 2026 the 13th train arrived, the service is expected to get even better.
  • The main goal for the future is to have trains every 5 minutes once all the new trainsets are ready and in use.

The Yellow Line can play a bigger role in easing traffic along the busy Hosur Road and Electronic City corridors but it is still having a lot of problems because a lot of people want to use the Yellow Line along the Electronic City and Hosur Road corridor especially during the peak hours when people are going to work. This is going to make it hard for the Yellow Line to run smoothly, BMRCL needs to make sure people can get to the metro stations easily by using buses, auto-rickshaws and walking. If they can do this more people will want to use the yellow line instead of driving their own cars.
