Synopsis: The National Highways Authority of India is going to start the construction of the Sadahalli underpass, the goal of this project is to create a corridor that is fully signal-free between Hebbal and Kempegowda International Airport. The project is expected to improve traffic and reduce travel time for people who travel towards airports.

Travelling between Hebbal and Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will soon take less time as NHAI has started the work on the Sadahalli underpass which was due for a long time. The work is expected to go on for 15 months and once it is done, it will remove the only traffic signal on the airport corridor and after that people can move without any delays.

What Is the Sadahalli Underpass Project?

The National Highways Authority of India wants to build an underpass at Sadahalli Junction on NH-44, this underpass will be 750 metres long and it will have 6 lanes. The main reason they are doing this is to get rid of the traffic light between Hebbal and Kempegowda International Airport. This way cars can just keep moving without stopping at any traffic lights. When the Sadahalli Underpass Project is finished it should make traffic move smoothly and help people get to the airport faster. It will make it easier for people to get around one of the busiest roads in Bengaluru.

What is the need for this Project ?

The project is important because Sadahalli junction has the only traffic signal on the Hebbal-Airport Road which is 22 kilometers long and it often causes delays for traffic that is going to the airport. So when the underpass is open vehicles will be able to travel on the Road without stopping at traffic signals.

Traffic Diversions During Construction

The construction of the Sadahalli Underpass is going to take 2 years, before they start the work on the Sadahalli Underpass the NHAI is going to make the service roads bigger, this way they can move the traffic to these roads with minimal disruption. They will make some changes to the traffic around the Sadahalli Junction, people who live and work near the Underpass and nearby villages will still be able to get around because they will keep access open during the whole time the Underpass is being built.
