Global events/updates
- The Trump administration has ordered Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico to dissolve their joint venture which allowed them to coordinate schedules, pricing, and flight capacity between the U.S. and Mexico by January 1, 2026, citing persistent anticompetitive effects in the U.S.-Mexico City air travel market that unfairly favored both airlines.
Although this move ends their close operational partnership, Delta is not required to sell its minority (20%) equity stake in Aeromexico, meaning financial ties between the companies will remain intact even as they compete independently on cross-border flights.
- India is set to hold trade talks with the U.S. Chief Negotiator Brendan Lynch in New Delhi. His visit is part of ongoing discussions and not a separate round of negotiations, lasting for a day.
The External Affairs Ministry is also involved in the dialogue. Notably, the 6th round of the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) negotiations, originally scheduled for the last week of August, had been postponed.
- A federal appeals court has blocked President Donald Trump’s attempt to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook before the central bank’s key policy meeting.
This ruling ensures that Cook, who had been accused by the administration of mortgage fraud but has not been criminally charged, retains her seat on the Fed’s
Board of Governors and is able to participate in the crucial two-day meeting starting Tuesday, where officials are expected to vote on lowering interest rates.
The decision, which highlights the Fed’s independence and protects Cook’s due process rights, is considered a setback for the White House, though further appeals are possible.
