Synopsis- Discover the top 7 Indian states that are fueling the nation’s export growth in 2025. From manufacturing hubs to trading powerhouses, see which states lead the way.
The export sector of India has recorded a strong growth with an overall value of US$824.9 billion in 2024-2025, and this has been made possible by the state-wise specialization. Powerhouses such as Gujarat, which is dominant in petroleum and chemicals, and Maharashtra, which has dominated in engineering and gems, have always been at the forefront. Diversification of the economy is evident in the emergence of new players in the electronics and IT industries, such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
1. Gujarat
- Gujarat has outbound shipments worth ~US$134.4 billion, accounting for 26.6% of the country’s total exports.
- Almost one-third of shipments are exported from the refiners of Jamnagar, turning Gujarat into the oil hub of the country, and its diamond polishers of Surat shine in the world’s jewellery market. Gujarat’s primary exports include petroleum products, organic and inorganic chemicals, and plastics
2. Maharashtra
- Maharashtra is an experienced multi-skilled professional. It has strengths in the diamond and jewellery trade in Mumbai, with exports worth ~ US$67.2 billion

3. Tamil Nadu
- Tamil Nadu is a powerhouse in the electronics world, previously known as a textile and auto parts maker. Smartphones produced around Chennai are currently covering markets around the globe, which leaves Tamil Nadu challenging Gujarat and Maharashtra as a new market, with exports worth ~ US$67.2 billion.
- The state is conservative and modern at the same time, with handlooms, textiles on one hand, and iPhones and major electronics on the other.

- There are two parentheses of export zones in Karnataka. It exports petroleum products, machines, and electronics, and leads the export of software using the IT system of Bengaluru.
- Karnataka specializes in capital goods and the IT sector, respectively, and contributes to ~ US$26.6 billion in exports.
5. Uttar Pradesh
- Uttar Pradesh is one of the leading exporters, in a landlocked state, but with huge ambitions, with exports contributing up to ~ US$20.6 billion.
- The electronic centers in Noida manufacture smartphones, and legacy investments in leather, textile, and craft demonstrate that a seashore is not a necessity to have an impact internationally.

7. Haryana
- A diverse range of products that are exported include automobiles, IT services, and software, contributing around ~ US$17.7 billion in exports.
