Mumbai Indians (MI) ended the 2025 IPL season in fourth place and made it to the playoffs after another familiar late comeback. Like many of their previous campaigns, they began poorly, losing their early games, but bounced back strongly in the second half.
With the 2026 auction nearing, the team management is expected to review its squad and make some tough calls before the retention deadline. Following are the players who might released
4. Allah Ghazanfar
Afghanistan leg-spinner Allah Ghazanfar was on a bench all season in 2025. He didn’t even receive a single game despite signing at a reasonable price. With Mitchell Santner spearheading the spin attack and other domestic players impressing, retaining Ghazanfar looks improbable. His recent average performances in international and domestic leagues have also put a question mark on his retention in MI.
3. Reece Topley
England seamer Reece Topley is also likely to be released prior to the upcoming auction. He played only one match in IPL 2025 and did not make any significant contribution. With a pace-oriented bowling unit already in hand, MI might rather spend money on a young Indian pacer who can provide both consistency and long-term returns.
2. Lizaad Williams
South African seamer Lizaad Williams played not a single game in the 2025 season, and he mostly spent time in the nets. His dearth of opportunities renders him a probable release as MI seeks to include more game-fit players in the team.
1. Karn Sharma
Seasoned leg-spinner Karn Sharma featured in six games, claiming seven wickets, but had issues with being predictable with his bowling. Though he has experience, MI may be looking for an attacking spinner who can restrict runs and perform under pressure.
