Synopsis: Steel stock jumps 7 percent after receiving BIS approval for premium TMT bars, while its 1 MW captive solar project moves closer to commissioning, supporting future growth.

The share of this company, which is an Indian steel manufacturing company specializing in thermo-mechanically treated (TMT) steel bars and round bars for the construction sector, gained focus after license approval

With a market capitalization of Rs 2,310 crore, Rhetan TMT Ltd’s stock on Monday made a day high of Rs 30.22 per share, up by 6.7 percent from its previous day’s close price of Rs 28.30per share. The share of the company gave a return of 419 percent since its listing in 2022 on BSE.

Licence Details

Rhetan TMT Limited has received the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) licence to manufacture Fe500D, Fe550, and Fe550D grade Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) bars. These are high-strength and high-ductility steel products widely used in modern infrastructure projects.

With this approval, the company can now manufacture and supply premium-grade TMT bars that meet the required quality standards for large construction and infrastructure applications. How will this benefit the company?

Access to high-value construction demand

The approval enables Rhetan TMT to cater to the growing demand for advanced steel products used in major infrastructure developments. With Fe500D and Fe550D grades now added to its portfolio, the company can target government projects, large-scale construction activities, and other applications where stronger and more durable TMT bars are required.

Opportunity to move towards higher-margin products

The inclusion of premium-grade TMT bars allows Rhetan TMT to expand beyond standard products and strengthen its presence in the value-added steel segment. These higher-strength products can improve the company’s product portfolio and help create better growth opportunities in the coming years.

Enhanced market credibility and future expansion

Receiving BIS certification for these grades improves the company’s standing among customers and project developers by demonstrating its ability to meet strict quality requirements. This can help Rhetan TMT compete more effectively in organised steel markets and benefit from India’s rising infrastructure development.

Solar Power Project Nears Launch After Key Approvals

The company’s 1 MW (AC) captive ground-mounted solar power project has completed all major regulatory and execution requirements and is now ready for commissioning. The project, which was planned as a growth initiative 17 months ago, has reached the final stage before starting power generation.

The company has received registration approval from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) under the Gujarat Renewable Energy Policy, 2023, along with the required permission from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for laying underground cables across the National Highway. The solar installation has been fully completed, with testing and commissioning activities currently underway. Power generation is expected to begin by the first week of August 2026.

How Can Renewable Energy Support Rhetan TMT’s Growth?

Rhetan TMT’s captive solar power project comes at a time when India is rapidly expanding both its renewable energy capacity and infrastructure spending. As steel demand continues to grow, the company is positioning itself to benefit from these long-term trends while reducing its dependence on conventional power sources.

One of the biggest advantages of the project is lower energy costs. Electricity is a major expense in steel manufacturing, and generating power through its own solar plant can help the company improve operational efficiency and reduce exposure to fluctuations in power prices. Over time, this can support better margins and more stable operations.

The project also strengthens Rhetan TMT’s move towards sustainable manufacturing. Along with its recent BIS approval for premium TMT bars, the company is improving both its product offering and its manufacturing process. This combination can enhance its market position and support long-term growth as customers and infrastructure projects increasingly focus on quality and sustainability.
