Synopsis:
Adani Power Limited has informed the exchange about receiving a Letter of Intent from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL),for setting up a 2400 MW thermal power plant.
The shares of India’s largest private-sector thermal power generation firm engaged in generating and selling electricity were in focus in the day’s trade upon receiving a new order to set up a 2400 MW thermal power plant in Bihar.
With a market capitalization of Rs 2,13,790 crore, the shares of Adani Power Limited are trading at Rs.577, up by 2 percent from the previous day closing price of Rs.566.90.
Work Order
Adani Power Limited has received a Letter of Intent from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited to develop and operate a 2,400 MW greenfield thermal power plant in Bihar, with an investment of $3 Billion, from which it will supply 2,274 MW of power to North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd
It has bid the lowest tariff of Rs 6.075 per unit in a competitive tender process. In the future, the company plans to build a new 3×800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant by using the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model.
The first unit of the project is expected to start operating within 48 months from the official start date, and the final unit will be ready within 60 months in Pirpainti village, in Bhagalpur district, Bihar.

Management Commentary
Adani Power Ltd’s CEO commented as follows: “We are pleased to have won the bid to develop and operate a 2,400 MW thermal power project in Bihar. We will set up a new greenfield plant with an investment of ~$3 billion, which is expected to further aid industrialization in the state. Our plant will be an advanced, low-emission Ultra-supercritical and will supply dependable, competitively priced, and high-quality power to the state.”
About the Company
Adani Power (APL), a part of the Adani portfolio, is the largest private thermal power producer in India. It has an installed thermal power capacity of 18,110 MW spread across twelve power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu, apart from a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat. There are eight projects planned up to for FY30, which sum to 15,250 MW, which are locked in capacity, to achieve a capacity of 30,670 MW.
Its revenue from operations declined by 6 percent YoY from Rs. 14,956 Crores in Q1FY25 to Rs. 14,109 Crores in Q1FY26, accompanied by profits of Rs. 3,913 Crores to Rs. 3,305 Crores.
