Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized India’s priorities at the SCO, focusing on trade, sovereignty, and security cooperation. He noted that India and Japan are working together on defense initiatives like a radar project, ship maintenance, and a lunar exploration mission with ISRO. He also mentioned that India continues to engage with the US on tariff issues, while the PM is expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India’s engagement with the US on tariffs and highlighted India’s interest in specific defense platforms in Japan. He added that the Indian Navy and Japanese counterparts are in discussions on ship maintenance in India. He also mentioned that PM Modi is expected to conduct some bilateral meetings during his China visit.
At a Maruti Suzuki event, PM Modi endorsed the “Make in India, Made for the World” initiative, highlighting strong India–Japan collaboration. He noted that Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) made in India will be exported to over 100 countries, supported by upcoming hybrid battery electrode production in Gujarat.
The export of India-made cars to Japan reflects global confidence in India’s manufacturing, while local battery cell production will strengthen EV and hybrid vehicle growth.
Land in Hansalpur, allotted to Maruti Suzuki in 2012, continues to advance the Make in India vision, with hybrid ambulances benefiting from government incentives for clean vehicles.
