Why the Final May Shift to Ahmedabad
The final was first planned to take place at the famous Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, several challenges have led the BCCI to consider moving the match to a different venue.
One major reason is security concerns in Kolkata. With a large number of fans expected to attend the final, the local authorities may find it difficult to ensure proper security during that time. The BCCI does not want to take any chances with crowd management or player safety.
Another key reason is the risk of rain. June is the beginning of the rainy season in Kolkata. Unpredictable weather may disrupt the final and cause delays or even abandonment. Ahmedabad, on the other hand, is expected to have dry weather in early June, making it a safer choice.
Logistical reasons have also played a role in this decision. Since Ahmedabad is already part of the revised IPL schedule, shifting the final there means lesser movement of teams and broadcast equipment.
Narendra Modi Stadium – A Suitable Venue
The Narendra Modi Stadium, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is the largest cricket stadium in the world, with a seating capacity of over 1,32,000. It has hosted several important matches in the past, including the ICC World Cup 2023 final and IPL knockout games.
The stadium is known for its modern infrastructure, excellent pitch conditions, and smooth crowd management. It also has state of the art media, hospitality, and dressing room facilities, making it an ideal venue for high-stakes matches like the IPL final.

IPL 2025 Revised Schedule
The 2025 IPL season faced an unexpected break in early May due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The BCCI decided to temporarily suspend the tournament to avoid any safety risks. The league is now set to restart on May 17, with the final taking place on June 3.
The remaining 17 matches of the season, including the playoffs, will be played in six cities: Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Jaipur. This new plan is designed to reduce travel and ensure better control over security and weather risks.
While the BCCI has not officially confirmed all the venues for the playoffs, reports suggest that Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium may host one of the playoff matches. However, Ahmedabad is emerging as the top choice for the final, due to its capacity and favorable conditions.

The final call on the venue is expected to be made soon, based on weather reports and coordination with local authorities. If Ahmedabad is confirmed, it will be the second time in three years that the stadium hosts an IPL final, after the 2022 and 2023 editions.
The possible shift of the IPL 2025 final to Ahmedabad shows the BCCI’s efforts to ensure a smooth, safe, and successful conclusion to the tournament.
