In the past six weeks, India has been part of the exhausting tour of England, where every Test match played out until the final day. The team is now enjoying a one-month break before shifting to white-ball cricket in the Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup could mean that many players who have been away since the conclusion of the IPL 2025 season are finally back in the spotlight. The Indian selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, is reportedly set to meet in the third week of August to finalise the squad.
Praisdh Krishna To Replace Bumrah?
Bumrah is unlikely to join the Indian squad and looks likely to miss his second consecutive Asia Cup. Several reports indicate that Bumrah might be carrying a knee injury, and India will want to manage his workload, keeping his fitness history in mind.
Praisdh Krishna played a key role in the India tour of England series, ending 2-2. He also won the IPL 2025 Purple Cap by claiming 25 wickets at an economy of 8.27 for Gujarat Titans.
Are Gill, Jaiswal, and Sudarshan going to make the squad?
Shubman Gill is ready for a T20I comeback, having been absent from the setup for a considerable period. He’s in prime form, having scored 650 runs in IPL 2025.
Along with Gill, his dynamic partner at Gujarat Titans, Sai Sudarshan is also set to be part of the Indian squad. Sai won the Orange Cap, scoring 759 runs in 15 innings, averaging 54.21.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, hasn’t been part of the T20I squad because of commitments to ODI and Test matches. Gambhir wants a strong core for the tournament, and Jaiswal is most likely to pair up with Abhishek Sharma.

In-Form Shreyas Iyer Set for India Comeback
Shreyas Iyer is seen as a strong middle-order batting option. He had a stellar IPL 2025 season with the Punjab Kings in their build-up to the final. The batter scored 604 runs in 17 innings with an impressive batting average of 50.33.
What does Rishabh Pant’s Injury mean for the Indian squad?
Rishabh Pant put on an inspiring performance during India’s tour of England as he played through an injury to keep India’s chances in the series alive. His omission from the Asia Cup squad due to injury could see Sanju Samson cement his spot in India’s squad. Samson had a mediocre outing in the IPL; however, the lack of competition will see India rely upon him with the gloves.
